  1. I had to steal my boyfriend's work laptop to get on and share this with all of you:

Now, I've been told that what NBC did was wrong... Is this true? If so, as you can see, I'm running with it and hoping that I can get enough people to write letters and (wishful thinking) get Melvin REALLY on the Jay Leno show, and hopefully start up a fund-raiser!

What do you all think about this?

  2. It seems like Melvin's picture is your property and they did use it without asking you which certainly seems wrong.

  3. I just recently moved the copyright from the bottom of my blog to the top so that people can't miss it, but it's always been on my blog.
I still think it's pretty exciting that he was on there, but it would be nice to get some sort of awesome fund-raising event started on this! Or even get some national awareness on "fad" breeding.

  5. Sure maybe we can start something for Melvin out of this. The picture of him was so cute. :)

  6. Yep, they used your picture, with your copyright, without permission or accreditation or payment and they must have known where they got it from -- that's just wrong! And they sure have enough lawyers to tell them that!

Seems to me it would be a great chance to get some publicity on the problems of 'teacup' breeding animals -- I would put that in your letter. Talk about the problems little Melvyn has and why he has 'good reason' to look mean occasionally... though of course actually, as we all know, he's a wee darling! Emphasise how tiny he is -- that's one thing the piccy doesn't show. YAYYYYY, Mouchois Melvyn is FAMOUS!

  7. Hmm.
Well, I'm trying to get as many people as possible to write a letter in to the station.

That's the contact form. :) Maybe we can get "teacup" breeding recognized for the crap it really is!

  8. Eek. MM, I did write a letter but first it told me it was too long to send and THEN I checked out the terms you're agreeing to when you submit -- you're agreeing to let them use your letter, likeness, and every little fibre and being of your name, personality, body and entire existence, just about, IN PERPETUITY.

I don't think they actually want feedback...

  9. Oh goodness.
    I didn't see that!
Great... And I wrote a long one. :/ Maybe I'll write to the Ellen show, instead.

  10. Can I have Melvin's pawtograph?

  11. To me it would only make sense for the show to have Melvin on and acknowledge your ownership. It would be great publicity for the show as well as getting the fund-raising for teacup pets into the public mind. Good luck to you and Melvin to get this settled!

  12. It IS exciting, but you should have been asked to use his picture!

  13. Marvelous for Melvin...the new famous kit...do you have a Star on his Cat carrier?!

  14. This is cool.

  15. MM, how about writing a polite, formal letter the old fashioned way, via snail mail, explaining things. That is more apt to get their attention than one of thousands of emailed missives meant to be fodder for comedy routines.

  16. Melvin isn't Jack Nicholson's cat!

  17. You should let the Ellen Show know and maybe she will help you out since she seems to like cats what with helping out the studio cat. I agree with others, it is your cat and your blog with a copy right notice on it. They should have contacted you first. I bet if you start to question it, they will sick their big dog lawyers on you. I hope you are able to at least get some sort of notice on the show. I agree with Marnet, snail mail is the way to go.

  18. Perhaps they got the photo from Catster or Facebook?
Does Melvin know he's a big star now?

  19. Or maybe they found it on ICANHASACHEEZBURGER, I saw melvin on there recently.

  20. What day was Melvin shown on Jay Leno's show? I don't normally watch it.

  21. Well, it's cool that he was on there, but a shame that NBC didn't bother to ask permission.
