  1. Hey everyone,

I just wanted to give you all an update about how I am doing with grad school and whatnot.

Wednesday- I got to the place where I was staying & explored the streetcar to campus. Had a wonderful sushi dinner for cheap!

Thursday- I had orientation for 8 hours and had a negative experience with a fellow cohort member that affected my whole day. Ended up staying in that night, getting some grounding going on. and I still had major nerves! I ended up talking to the Program head about the disabilities I face and she was really understanding.

Friday- FIRST CLASS!! Major anxiety and nervousness. The class is Social Work & Social Welfare Policy, and not one of my favs as of yet. I talked to my instructor individually and talked about accommodations that could be useful for me. She understands and I don't have to jump through the hoops of the Disability Resource Center hoops. Ended up going out to a traditional Irish pub and had wonderful corned beef and cabbage with fresh tapped Guinness! yumm!

Saturday- SECOND CLASS! This class is Human behavior and the Social Environment. It's ok so far, but seems like a review from my undergrad so far, I hope it gets better. I'm planning to drive back to Eugene tonight, after I hangout with a friend up in Portland.

Let me know if you have any questions, etc!

    So far so good...
But I need to remember to breathe.....

  2. Good Luck! I know what you are going thru. Grad school is tough no matter what your major. I know that you will do well. Hang in there and feel free to come and vent anytime when it gets frustrating (and it will MANY TIMES). (((AL)))

  3. See - no imposter nerves!!! Of course, I'm still stuck on the cheap sushi dinner. We love sushi but it's anything but cheap here!!

You go, girl! You will do great!

  4. Now you have your first couple of classes under your belt. I hope you are feeling less nervous about it. I'm glad you spoke to your instructors and got the assistance you needed. Way to advocate for yourself, AL! Your sweetie and furrbabies are looking forward to your return home. :)

  7. Aw, you guys rock! I'm feeling much better now that I am done. :o) I ended up meeting up with my friend from Eugene who is up here doing classes as well. & the boy said that he wants me to stay up here with my friend so I can relax and decompress :o) So I am staying up in Portland for the night and already feel less stressed :o)

  9. UPDATE 1.5-

I made it safely back home Sunday morning/afternoon. KW followed me to take the car back and took me out to lunch! Needless to say, I talked her ear off about everything and my classes lol.

I was not feeling good all last night and had a terrible time sleeping, so I am choosing to take the day off today, knowing that tomorrow I will be studying like crazy. At least one of my instructors gave me two of the assignments early!

  10. Sorry your not feeling well today, but take it easy for now. Besides, if you have made it as far as grad school you have had to "study like crazy" many, many times...Wonderful that you had KW to talk to!!
