   Hello, I am so concerned about our kitten Abby. She is a wild thing dashing about the house doing kitten stuff. Maybe I am just a nervous nelly . I fear for her safety. She runs so hard and fast playing she sometimes crashes into things. I can not keep her locked in the sewing room, mostly padded cell, Heheheh all the time she needs to learn to interact with us. We let her out when we are home and the pups are in their yard.Several hours a day or sometimes a few short times a day. It has been many years since we had a kitten. We usually adopted the older kitties.Are they always so wild and crazy? Are they made of rubber for the first year until they settle down so they do not break? Abby is about 9 weeks old now. We have had her since she was about a week as she was abandoned by Mom.

   Hi, yes she sounds entirely normal for a kitten. They tend to be insane and also seem somehow able to crash into things without breakage (at least of themselves!) You are just really starting the crazy period, it's like they figure out how their legs work and there is no such thing as "slow" speed anymore. At about six months they get a little less frenetic, but it isn't until they are a year or so that they really start to calm down. I am speaking from the experience of raising six kittens in the last three years. My suggestion is remove all the table cloths and anything else they can grab on and swing from, and cuddle a lot!

   Thanks for the calming post. I have removed most things as I figure it out that can crash down on her. YIKES She is such a speed ball. On the slick kitchen floor there is no stopping. I have crawled around on the floor trying to kitten proof things. Put the plants that I know are dangerous for kitties way up high. So far there is a limit to how high she can get. The older guys are not interested in the plants.

   Oh My I am just going to have to try to calm down on this . I see her looking like she is going to smash herself to bits and she just takes off running full blast again and then some. EEEKKK 6 months of this!!! She sure does make us laugh and gasp at the same time.

   She does get cuddled until she is off again on a dead run. She does not seem to be able to lay still for long. She likes to be cuddled. Still biting us and we think she is teething.I am treating her biting as I did our puppy, holding my finger into her mouth more then she likes, and she has lightened up a lot. She is learning not to bite us hard and she is not clawing just claws in patting.

   My boys are 5 months old and they are lunatics! I have hardwood floors in my condo and they run top speed and crash on a regular basis! I get all stressed out and worry but they do seem to be like Rubbermaid kittens, they always bounce back !

   As for the biting give her a drinking straw next time she chews on you, it will show her what she should be biting. My boys still like to play with straws Tommy especially!

   Kittens are so fun and funny - its kinda her job to make you laugh and gasp, enjoy it she will only be a kitten once!

   Kittens are really wild and crazy! I remember thinking I would never survive that first year with my two monsters. At 3 AM I would hear the pair of them thump-thump-thump-thump-thumb go up the stairs, thump-thump-thump-thump-thump go down the stairs - over and over and over again. At 5 AM they would play jump-on-sleeping-human games. Then they would notice a fly on the wall, and cry. These mighty hunters of insects wanted ME to persuade the fly to come down so they could "attack".

   Chris, it sounds like you have done the right things to make Abby as safe as possible.
