More help - Ulysses and his poop

(9 posts)
  1. Ok. Here I go again. Ulysses hasn't pooped since yesterday morning. He keeps trying but it's not coming out. He's peeing, though. I can kind of see it trying to come out. I've tried gently rubbing his bum with a warm cloth but he really doesn't let me do it. He didn't eat his third meal of the day but he's eating now. I'm assuming that some of his meds may have a constipating effect on him. I called the ER vet just to ask but they didn't seem too concerned, but I'm concerned. It has to be uncomfortable for him.

I just can't wait until he is off meds, gaining weight steadily, and pooping regularly without the tons of effort he's putting out now. His brother has been helpful in grooming him and has been attempting to take care of his bum; hopefully Gus will help him out a little.

I'm going away to Disney World next week. I have someone sleeping here to take care of them and a cat sitter stopping by once or twice a day during the day. She just happens to be a special needs cat sitter, which is great. I just hope he's closer to better once I leave so I don't worry so much.

    Thanks for listening.

  2. Awww, Wolcar, that's what we are here for. Bless Gus, trying to help his little bro. You could try adding a few drops of olive oil (or other vegetable oil) to Ulysses' food. Check out the poop, constipation threads (one of our favourite topics!)

  3. Next feeding I will try that. I just took a dab of the olive oil and put some on his bum. He doesn't let me or gus get too close to his bum. He meows, the poor thing.

  4. Oh poor baby. Abby would hold her head in her hands/paws and cry when she was trying to poop. I found by laying her on her back and just keep massaging her tummy it would help to get her to go. Then if it did start to come out I helped her along. Yuck but she was so relieved when it was out. I used a small glass eyedropper to give her en enema. The glass slid in easier than the plastic and it was very small. Do not remember where it came from. Makeup maybe??

  6. He had a tiny tiny poop last night. I'm at home now for lunch and there was a nice poop in the litter box :-) YAY!

  7. So, Ulysses' poop is starting to get looser than it has. I'm hoping this makes it easier for him to get it out. His belly is so big and hard. He didn't have worms (I know that can make a kittens belly big). He didn't have fluid of any type in it. It's very frustrating. He's currently running around with Gus, so I know he is feeling pretty good. I just want him to start looking the part of a healthy kitten. A person I know who knows more about cats/kittens than I do told me to rub/massage his belly to possibly help move things along. I started doing that. We'll see. Woe is Ulysses.

  9. Get some cod liver oil and put a teeny teaspoon in his food, until he becomes more regular. Also, look up NJKatwoman's videos on Youtube. She shows how a kitten is stimulated to poop, very informative. she's also a member here.
