My new kitten, exotic shorthair, was vaccinationed for Panleukopenia, Calicivirus, Rhinotrachetis and Pneumonitis at 8 1/2 weeks and 11 1/2 weeks prior to us getting him..... No check-mark next to FIV and FIP on his papers.
QUESTION: does this sound correct for the breeder's vaccinations for kittens?
We are getting his boosters and rabies shots.

Currently the vaccination for FIP and FeLV (I assume that is the FIV on the papers) are given ONLY if the cat is in a situation where he or she is at risk of catching these diseases. You can talk to your vet about whether or not your kitty will need these vaccinations.
Your breeder has inoculated your kitty with "core" vaccinations that are highly recommended.
From the Cat Fancier's Association website:
"The ubiquitous nature and the seriousness of infection with feline panleukopenia (FPV), feline viral rhinotracheitis (FHV-1), feline calicivirus (FCV), and rabies justifies vaccinating all cats against these diseases. These vaccines will be referred to as CORE vaccines. Vaccines against chlamydiosis, FeLV, FIP, and ringworm will be called NON-CORE vaccines. Use of NON-CORE vaccines should be restricted to those cats with realistic risk of exposure to these pathogenic organisms."

CL yes breeders only give core vaccines! And the others are given by choice of owner and vet! My Mainecoon's came with the first core vaccines as they came to me at 8 weeks! I thn discussed my options with my vet!

Oh, thank you both so much for your reply and helpful info! We've had a hard time (health issues) with the new kitty and I could not help but wonder if there were some shots omitted. Its good to know that everything is up to par.
Hes doing so much better! and no worries about FIP, which was my main concern. Thanks again!!!

SOme times health problems have nothing to do with vaccines. Are they health issues specific to Exotics? Most breeders are up fornt and honest about health issues with their breeds and will let you know about their breeding habits and how they screen out those issues. Though sometimes they do get some issues that still pop up.
My max came to be seemed healthy as can be except for a heart murmur only to later find out it was not a heart murmur but that he is anemic so the heart murmur was the cause of the blood in his system which was low on red blood cell counts. Those are things even a breeder can't plan for. So speak with your vet and the breeder!

Yes, I agree 100%, since I have researched and become more educated on this, I agree that the health problems often have nothing to do with the vaccines.
I had a good talk with the Vet and she told me the same very thing and the Breeder has been an Angel during the kitten's illness. She has been so wonderful.
Looks like things are looking up for him now, he is so much better than he was a few weeks back, growing, gaining weight and very very active!

Be sure to request only non-adjuvanted vaccines, which are much safer than adjuvanted vaccines. Vaccines containing adjuvant, a component to stimulate the immune system, are at least 5 times more likely to cause a VAS. (Vaccine Associated Sarcomas (VAS) or Injection Site Fibrosarcomas - are a type of cancer caused by vaccines)
VAS is 100% fatal if the tumor is between the shoulder blades. With surgical removal, radiation therapy and chemotherapy survival time is less than 3 years. If the tumor is in the distal part of the rear leg, amputation, plus radiation, & chemo may be curative in 20% of cases.
Non - Adjuvanted vaccines are available for cats for all preventable diseases including Rabies, Distemper, Rhinotracheitis, Calici virus and Feline Leukemia, and are considered safer.
Intranasal Vaccines are safer.
The AVMA VAS Task Force recommends, to reduce the risk of VAS:
#1. reduced vaccination schedules,
#2. vaccination in the distal hind limb, and
#3 intranasal and non-adjuvanted vaccines.
