I read the label on a can of cat food I occasionally give Pumpkin as a treat (she normally eats the dry cereal cat food), and I noticed something called 'ash content'. Why are we feeding our animals 'ash'? Do animals need it, or is it filler in the pet food can? Is the meat used in pet food not wholesome enough to nourish our animals?

I think it could have to do with cooking it...basically it is just another thing that cats don't need.
What brand of canned was it???
