  1. So Kaieteur hissed at me twice today. He has his usual crazy time as i like to call it. He'll start running around and side winding and hopping at nothing and no one in particular. but today in addition to all that, he ran up on the bed to where i was laying and HISSED at me! he did this twice... is he just carried away in his playing? or is he mad at me for some reason that i havent figured out yet?

  2. Don't know why he is hissing. You can make a point of keeping track of when this occurs to see the pattern. Is he hungry?

If you want to cure him of the habit, just be a "momma cat" by hissing back bigger and badder. Don't hit or slap, just hiss back while holding him by the scruff of the neck like a momma cat does. It sends the message that you are in charge and that his behavior is unacceptable.

  3. i have been hissing at him as my method of disciplining and teaching him what's safe to do. he was just fed at the time and he's usually quite timid with his interaction with us, that i was just so taken aback! i guess i will monitor him and make sure nothing is amiss.

  4. oh my goodness, he did it again! why is he being so aggressive?

  5. is it only hissing, or does he spit and snarl as well?

  6. so far it's only hissing. and not continuous. he'll run up to me hiss once and that's it. but he's just never done this before. i've only every heard him hiss at his toys, and at a dog in vet's waiting room once.

  7. I work with feral cats a lot, so i see serious aggressive behaviour in cats on a regular basis - i dont think your kitty is being aggressive, i think he might just be too involved in his playing. something you should always consider though is that cats start to behave differently if they are in pain, the usual way they behave is by being aggressive, so if he continues doing this you should rather have him checked out by a vet.

  8. although, i just saw your post about catnip - my cats always hiss at me when they've been rolling in the catnip, so no worries there . . .

  9. If he hisses at his toys (never seen a cat do this) then I wouldn't worry too much, you seem to be officially one of his toys... If he starts following it up with scratches and bites -- mean ones -- then I would start worrying...

  10. Skyron, if it continues or escalates i will definitely have him checked out. LOL @ Jcat... I am definitely just a huge toy/bed/chew toy/climbing post and food giver to him.

  11. Kait is still a little boy, and a beautiful Torie-Point Siameser to boot. He's just trying on some Siamese catitude. JCat and Marnet have provided really good advice. Watch him, hiss back in MomCat mode, and cuddle the little devil.

  12. Sushi, a part Siamese from my past used to do her side pounce and hiss while "playing the mighty huntress"!

  13. Could he be hissing at an unfamiliar smell? Have you changed your soap or machine wash liquid so you smell different to him?

  14. Aww Emma thanks, i think my babe is a beaut too, i have no idea what he's mixed with. Maybe he is growing into his personality :) JK Kaieteur thinks he's a mighty hunter all the time. The little butt wiggle before the pounce is sooo adorable. MCW... nothing's changed that I can think of, but there hasnt been any other unusual behaviour, so all seems well so far.
    thanks all!
