  2. How old is your kitten?

Like any baby, kittens need to chew when teething. Try putting a touch of catnip, if you have any, in the toe of an old sock then tying the sock in a stout knot. It makes a wonderful toy that will attract your kitten and encourage kitty to gnaw on it rather than things he shouldn't.

When your kitten bites what he shouldn't, don't punish him, he's just a baby. Instead, redirect his attention to something you consider okay to bite. He'll get the idea eventually.

  4. Most toys sold in pet shops are designed to appeal to humans in exchange for their hard earned money, not to appeal to cats. And many of those toys have loosely glued on "eyes" and such which come off easily to be swallowed and/or choked on by kittens.

A simple crumpled sheet of paper tossed down as a toy to bat around, a shoelace dragged back and forth as a lure, an old sock tied in a knot all make toys cats love to play with, don't cost anything, and are safe for kitties.

Don't offer your hand to bite. If kitty starts biting when you are petting or playing, firmly say "no biting" while removing your hand. Redirect kitty to play with something other than your hand. Kitty will learn.
