Kidney Bean Report

  1. Well the prayers aren't working as I had expected. I guess I am getting my prayers answered--just not in the manner I thought.

    The doctor didn't have much good news today. What ever the thing is in my kidney is now growing my my right kidney. The left kidney is pretty bad. Guess what--they are ordering another test. Wish that we could have something done other than another test. He wants the tests ordered before I see the nephrologist. My pain is worse. They did get the stuff from Covenent with my cardiology work up. It appears my heart got a bit bigger. The word enlarged is what they said. Although it is enlarge on the normal side. You know I have come to the conclusion I need to take a medical person that can cut through what they are saying and get to the point. I finally said that. Today I looked at the doctor and said do I for a fact have cancer--he isn't sure but it appears to be some phoma something I don't remember. Is my left kidney functioning--barely and the renal duct is now almost 100% by the thing growing. What is the thing you are now seeing on the right kidney, is it the same--I'm not sure. Am I going to die--eventually but not today. Okay he has a sense of humor I think. I am now beyond upset. I don't even know what to do. Wait for the next round of tests. Continued prayers maybe the very best thing.

  2. ((((SM))))) I'm so sorry! It sucks that you can't get some definitive answers and it's hard when you don't speak the medical language.
    You're in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted.

  3. Thank you GD. I hurt. Today is not a good day.

  4. OH SM, I am sorry to hear that. If you come to Lubbock for treatments I will open my house to you so that you dont have to worry about some place to stay. I have an inflatable queen size bed that inflates to be 3 feet tall. I will kick the cats out of thier room so that you can have it.

    Though I do have to warn you that harry will try and make you feel better and demand you pet him and cuddle him till he feels you have had enough.

  5. SM - I am so very sorry to hear this. Docs have a tendancy to forget that the people they are talking to don't speak 'medical'. Good for you for asking point blank what he's talking about. You remain in my thoughts and I am sending you all the white healing energy I can muster.

  6. {{{{SM}}}} I'm way behind on stuff but sounds like something good is not going on for you. I will suggest, as you alluded to, that you do indeed take along a liaison for yourself. An advocate. Someone who can write things down for you, ask questions you might not think of, etc. You have some scary things going on and your brain just won't function like it normally would. Please have a friend go with you from now on. Go with a list of questions, yes, even the scary ones. You need another set of ears and eyes and an extra mouth right now. You are indeed in my prayers.

  7. Thank you TKN. I don't know where I am going next. I know that they talked about sending me to another specialist in Albuquerque. I am pushing for Lubbock because it is closer. I should know in a few days.

    2P I don't like the words that end in phoma stuff. He kept using that--seems to me that he should just say the word cancer. There is no scare of a word, and I have to know what I am facing. It is just a cut to the chase and tell me what to do! I just need to gather the nurses here, and then I would have the ability to know what the heck he is saying!

    I had the questions Lainey. Is it cancer, does my kidney function, will I lose it, and am I going to die--those are the things I wanted to know. I am hoping that I will get more answers.

  9. [[[[SM]]]] I wish I could be there for you and translate for that clueless Dr. You have my wishes,my positive thoughts and my prayers.

  10. {{{{{{{SM}}}}}}} I am so sorry to learn what all you have been going through. The suggestion to take someone with you is a good one because two minds can retain more information when it's delivered like that than one. And by all means, ask your doctors to describe what is happening in layman's terms that will make sense to you. Some of the "phoma" ending words aren't a horrible diagnosis. The best thing now is to have all of the tests run and find out exactly what it is that you are dealing with here.

    I know that Lubbock is closer, but there are some excellent physicians in Albuquerque. If that's where the best specialists are, that's where you should go.

    You know that you are in my prayers.

  11. It is sooooooo frustrating to not get straight answers, SM!! I hope the additional test will provide clarity so you know exactly what you are dealing with. I'm praying hard for you. I hope the test and appointment with the nephrologist can be scheduled quickly. {{{{{{hugs}}}}}}

  12. I hear you SM.... the phoma's can be scary. A straight forward answer would be nice. But don't hold your breath waiting for one. Docs are so leary of law suits they will test and test and test. They sometimes get lost in the process. ((SM))

  13. I'm so sorry, SM, that you can't get some straight answers. You are continually in my thoughts. Sending you all my love and as much healing energy as the universe will allow. So many, many gentle {{{HUGS}}}

  14. That is so frustrating that you can't get a a conclusive answer yet SM. Hopefully the extra tests will help with that. Sending you Positive Vibes and {{{hugs}}}.

  15. Had an afternoon appointment with my family doctor. He said, "Don't be angry with me." I looked at him and stated, "I am not angry with anyone, just the situation." It has been three weeks to the day that I was told by a doctor about the mass and that it was "a large mass that lookes to be a cancer in the middle of your left kidney." I am now three weeks later and no news. My doctor went and got the doctor I saw this morning. He said "There are gays in New York, and bombings in Afganistan don't borrow trouble." Now I have to ask--what the h*ll does that have to do with anything? I am there in a doctor's office asking for medical assistance and that is what I got. And to top it off they told my husband to give me an anti-anxiety drug--they told him Xanax was a medication for my pain! Now I know people that have been on that medication and it sure isn't for PAIN! I am now very angry, and now I am angry at my doctors.

    Posted 2 years ago by SoxsMom #

  16. ((SM)) You are in my thoughts and prayers. I cannot believe what you have to endure. Your doctor sounds like a putz..what does gays and bombings have to do with your health? I would be beyond angry. Please know you are loved and prayers are coming to you from all around the world. ((SM))

    Posted 2 years ago by cricketsmama #

  17. SM, I don't know about the Xanax, but I have been on Prozac for many years and it really does help with pain as well -- those anti-anxiety meds seem to take the pain threshold higher, so it's not as bad. I have always had severe period cramps but they just about disappeared when I first went on Prozac. Pain is very bound up with all the other psychological states, such as anxiety and so on, they do know that, so while you may feel they're fobbing you off with anti-depressants, it might actually help, as long as you're getting good pain relief meds as well. And I so want you to be getting some good pain relief! {{{HUGS}}}

    I'm with CM though. The 'Afghanistan bombings' doctor sounds like a putz. And schmuck. And dipstick, as we would say here. (We would also say a lot of worse things...)

  18. SM, do you want me to slip thru the wormhole and kick the dumb doc in the an area where it might do the most good?

    I am so sorry to learn that you are dealing with such a tricky situation with such a jerk example of a medical professional.... but maybe his comment was meant to be reflective of the reality that not all masses in the kidney are in fact malignant cancers, most are benign... what tests are they doing? Have they talked biopsy yet? There are massess that develop as a result of trauma - didn't you fall a while back? I agree wiith the others - you need a pushy female friend to stand up with you and write down all the jargon so you can look it up on tht web if he can't/won't explain! {{{{SM}}}}

  19. I'm sorry about the SOB doc SM, I do wish you were closer my gyno is also a urology specialist and I would so recomend her to you. I would also try and get a recomendation for a doc at Joe errington(sp?) at UMC it is one of the top rated cancer centers.

  20. Is it time for us to don our Ninja suits, take out our Whack-bonk sticks and defend our TDK friend from putz's and uncaring fools?
    Emma? Are you out there ready to lead us.
    I am absolutely stunned at the comment by the Doctor you saw this morning SM, it bears absolutely no relationship to your situation.

  21. {{{{{{SM}}}}}}
    By the way... I LOVE my XANAX. It is indeed a calming agent, shuts down the worry thoughts that go around and around and allows you to rest so you can fight this "thing". The effect is temporary and lasts about 8 hours, and then is gone.

    Posted 2 years ago by MerD #

  22. I am also stunned.Xanax is for anxiety and should only be used when there is adequate pain relief. Are you also on any meds also for pain? Something with Oxycodone in it,not a lot but that is what is needed IMO.
    As far as that asinine comment all I can think is that he does not want to definitively call it cancer until a biopsy is done but he should have spent some time talking to you and making sure you understood the game plan.
    Count me in on any Ninja team.

  23. I have vicodin for pain. I am still angry at the entire situation. My doctor asked me what I wanted him to do. My first thought is YOUR JOB. I have a mass, you already said the c word and can't take that back, so why not figure out what it is. Then I spoke with my Mom. My stepdad had kidney stones. They were wicked. He balled like a baby because of the pain. This guy is a marine--he knew pain and how to deal with it. The kidney stones about killed him. I am in agony and they really don't know what the masses are. What if it is a really large kidney stone? He said that the kidneys can not be causing the pain. I have seen a grown man unable to function because of kidney stone pain. I think the what if-ing is killing me. I just need to know what I am dealing with and treat it.

    Emma I am on my broom and have a whack-bonk stick and a cast iron skillet at my disposal!

    Posted 2 years ago by SoxsMom #

  24. SM, if it is stones, even a big one, they can pulverize them with ultrasound or something... you are right the pain is terrible! and they can be quite large single ones or bunches of them... In the realm of diagnosis options, the stones are a much better outcome than even the benign tumors... but this dodo-related doc needs to get a move on! Hang in there, and keep us posted!!! hugs and headbonks from the whole crew here on the bayou!

  25. Oh, have they said anything about the results of your urine tests? Talked about finding red blood cells or any kind of crystals? I used to work in a hospital lab...

    Posted 2 years ago by nawlins catmom #

  26. There was blood in my urine. I have seen crystals, but none today. What does that mean?

    Posted 2 years ago by SoxsMom #

  27. If you have seen crystals, which generally we looked for under the microscope, it sounds to me like a serious set of stones... the red cells are from the micro cuts in the kidneys by the sharp edges from the crystals... but I am NOT a doc... you might want to look online for what to do while waiting for a resolution... I think there are certain drinks that can be beneficial, but it has been too long for me to remember... I just worry that he (dodo doc) would have said kidney stones if he thought that is what it was.... confusing! I am so angry at your doc(s)!!!

    Posted 2 years ago by nawlins catmom #

  28. SM - here is a link to the Mayo Clinic site - for Kidney stones.... http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/kidney-stones/DS00282 if this does not sound like your case, they have lots of other info sections as well...

    Hang in there! Hugs!

    Posted 2 years ago by nawlins catmom #

  29. SM, I really must say that it is time for you to gather all of the test results that have been done, and all of your records relating to this, and go to a specialist. And I really would recommend that you ask for an immediate referral to the practice in Albuquerque. If it were me, I would do that tomorrow and not waste anymore time.

    And....Xanex is not given for pain. If they are telling you that, it borders on malpractice.

    Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  30. I would agree with WWM for you to get to the specialist for an actual diagnosis and definitive treatment. SM if there is anything that you need please let me know.
