Kidney Bean Report

  1. ACtually, a friend of mine with very severe post-polio pain was given a tranquilizer recently. Sounds odd...but sometimes medications have benefits for treatments other than the original intent! And there is merit in being a bit more relaxed (but still focused) on your medical condition, since mind and body are so intertwined.

BE PERSISTENT with your doctors and don't be afraid to ask for referrals to specialists or second opinions. I'm still on hold waiting to hear (tomorrow) what my doctor says after the CT scan on my back and kidneys last Monday. Be assertive in your health care, SM.

  2. SM, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers; I hope they figure out what is causing you so much pain very soon.

Now, some advise - PLEASE don't be willing to just settle for the doctor that you have now. I did that for far too many years, with a doctor who never really worked with me and had terrible relationship skills. I finally got the nerve to switch and am now very happy and comfortable with my current doctor. I know that she would never let me go through what you are dealing with without clearly explaining things to me. Sometimes you just need to be proactive (yes, that means "pushy"). It's your health; you have the right to know what is going on.

  3. SM I am so sorry for all the anxiety and trouble you are having. Sounds like those docs are being real jerks. You are in my thoughts and prayers every day. Btw, I take Xanax along with my pain meds for post-polio--it does seem to boost the effect of the pain meds.

  5. SM, I am just now reading this. I have lifted you up in prayer and specifically prayed that you find a good doctor who can diagnose, treat and cure your problem. Seek out a specialist and one that doesn't patronize you. Geeze louise, yes there are problems out there in the world and your's is one of them. To make light of your fears and frustrations is the worst sort of bed side manner.

  6. It seems that if there were even a chance that this is cancer, they should be doing something about it a lot more quickly than they are. Some physician who takes your needs seriously should take action, ASAP.
