Today in 1843, the Jewish organization B'nai B'rith was founded in New York City. Today, it is dedicated to building schools, hospitals and other services, as well as to combatting anti-Semitism in the world.
Also today in 1792, the cornerstone of the White House was laid down in Washington, D.C. Construction would take over eight years, and the building would undergo countless renovations between the initial cornerstone and the present day mansion.
