Happy US Navy Day today! Let's stop to remember all our men and women serving around the world. Let's raise a glass of OJ in their honor. A fully loaded buffet and kittehs at your service. They are so snuggly today. Its another cold day here in the midwest, all bundled up. Had a rough night last night so I am up and at it early today. Hope you all have a wonderful day! Purrs to you!

Feelin' pretty good, thanks MC! I had a breakfast-snitchin' Tansey this morning and a cuddly Hermes too. Double my fun :-)
Clipped everybody's claws last night. Momentary dissatisfaction with meowmy, but no more sticky claws in the carpeting or comforters (lol).
Picked up Hermes (oof!) for a quick cuddle this morning and he let me rub his eyes. Ah, bliss....kitty cuddle before going to work.

G'morning everyone, sitting here @ w*** and only 3 hrs to go!! Haven't been able to lurk much this evening but leaving with a small chuckle joke...
Fishing trip with Jack Daniels - I finally got around to going fishing this morning but after a while I ran out of worms. Then I saw a cottonmouth with a frog in his mouth, and frogs are good bass bait. Knowing the snake couldn't bite me with the frog in his mouth, I grabbed him right behind the head, took the frog and put it in my bait bucket. Now the dilemma was how to release the snake without getting bit. I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels and poured a little whiskey in its mouth. His eyes rolled back, he went limp, I released him into the lake without incident, and carried on my fishing with the frog. A little later I felt a nudge on my foot. There was that same snake with two frogs in his mouth.

LOL, Deb! Hadn't heard that one.
Hi, everyone! I'm with MC and the cold weather coming through. Had to warm up the car this morning before coming in to work. Sorry to hear that your kitties are still having hissy fits with each other.
Siobhan, a kitty cuddle before work is always the best way to start the day.Posted 1 month ago by LadyKat of IA #

And speaking of Navy Day...today the midwest Casey's Stores are sending WWII veterans to Washington, D.C. to see the monuments erected in their memory and to be recognized for their contribution to the freedom of the United States. (This is the second such flight--the first was sponsored by Hy-Vee grocery stores.) Hy-Vee will send another such flight in November as an effort to get all veterans to Washington, D.C. to be honored for their part in freedom.

Arggghhh what a weekend. I went to the doctor to get the physical needed for my yoga class. He said my eye sight is poor and he would not check the box saying recommended for full athletic participation until I got my eyes checked. I went to the eye doctor and I'm near sighted with a slight astigmatism. Then all day my eyes were going nuts from the pupil enlarger he gave me. I'm really lucky and since I'm tight on money my mom offered to help me pay the doctors. Now I woke up with a very sore throat and runny nose...I'm getting sick! Ugh! I better not get sick enough to need to go back to the doctor AGAIN. My throat felt so horrible that I had a soup for breakfast!

Gini, sorry to hear you are not feeling well. It's good that you found out about your eyes before they get worse.
We got our personal team T-shirts today for the Susan Komen Race for the Cure, which is scheduled in Des Moines on Oct. 24. We have a good team from work and friends and relatives who participate. I will be at the zoo that day for our Night Eyes Halloween activity, but I always register to give the donation and sign up for a team shirt. This year they are pink tye-die and look really cool.Posted 1 month ago by LadyKat of IA #

Gini, get better. Soup for breakfast is a good thing. I am thinking about lunch. Maybe a liverwurst sandwich w/slice vidalia onion and mayo on rye. To go with it a big glass of coldest skim milk available. Have a great day everyone.

Mmmm, liverwurst. I just might have to go out and get a liverwurst and swiss on rye for lunch...
I have a red heart on my office door! Our school nurse put it there to identify me as CPR certified.Posted 1 month ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

Now my tummy got upset, too! Augh. I hope this illness comes and goes fast. I might have to skip my yoga class tonight I don't think I should exercise like this. It stinks because if we miss more than one class our grade drops and I don't want to use up my absence but I might have to

Ahoy Mateys! Chicago was great. The graduation at the Navy Recruitment Training Command was awsome! 1019 graduates, it was huge. Everyone was so nice and accomodating. Bailey's division, 349, won the most competitions flags with 5 other divisions. He was right up front with one of the competition flags. The thing that struck me most was his hands. His hands have always struck a cord with me even when he was born. Of course, the tears just flowed all day on Friday. Heck, they are even flowing now. I came home to surprising news, I am not that happy about it, my 19 year old daughter left me a note telling me she is pregnant. I am trying to wrap my brain around that.......she lives with a boyfriend that I currently do not approve of. I have not spoken with her yet, I am still trying to wrap my brain around the whole thing.........

Good morning. Not sure if the wind is effecting my kitties but they were overly active last night. Woke me up a couple of times with their running around. Rain started just before I left for work. Drove slowly and very carefully as there were accidents all over the San Francisco Bay Area. It rains and we Californians forget that one needs to drive slower when it the roads are wet. Got treated kind of crappy this morning by a coworker who is being a jerk to me ever since I reported to HR his saying something unacceptible to me. I try not to deal with him but he unfortunately works closely with my manager. Then the new Executive Assistant who I am suppose to train on the time card systems pulls her high and mighty attitude on me. I am feeling like the cat's scratching post this morning and I just want to go home and be with my cats.
MC, sorry you had a bad night. Gini, hope you feel better.

Hey family ! Nice tribute to Naval personnel. My Dad was in the Navy years ago. One of my favorite pictures of him was taken with him in his uniform.
Slow day at work today... makes for a long day. If the buffet is still up, I'd love some French toast with powdered sugar this morning.. with a side of bacon and a chai tea. Oh.. and a sweet kitty to snuggle.
Tina - oh dear. Not a good way to find out. Apparently she knew the news would not be well accepted, or she'd not have left a note... she would have told you face to face. You are in my thoughts....

Hi, Everyone! In honor of Navy Day, how about a big pot of.....
Navy Bean Soup
Ingredients
* 1 pound Navy Beans, picked over and rinsed, drained
* 10 sprigs parsley
* 2 sprigs fresh thyme or rosemary
* 1 bay leaf
* Left over ham bone or 2 Large smoked ham hocks, 1.5 lbs
* 1 med onion, coarsely chopped
* 1 clove garlic, coarsely chopped
* 8 cups cold water
* 1 med carrot, coarsely chopped
* Kosher salt and ground black pepperDirections
1. Place beans in large saucepan and cover with cold water by about 2 inches. Bring to boil and lower the heat to simmer.
2. Cook for 5 minutes, remove from heat. Cover and let sit for 1 hour. Drain and reserve liquid.
3. In large soup pot or dutch oven combine beans, herbs, ham, onion, carrot and garlic with water.
4. Bring to a boil, cover and reduce heat so soup is at a low simmer. Cook until the beans and hocks (or meat on bone) are tender, about 1 1/2 hours.
5. Turn off heat and remove hocks, cool slightly. Remove meat and discard fat, skin and bones. Cut into small cubes.
6. Remove herbs
7. Puree 3 cups of bean mixture in blender and add back to soup with meat.
8. Heat soup and add salt & pepper to taste.Posted 1 month ago by WillowandWindismom #

Good morning, all. Hope everyone's having a good day. MC, what happened last night??
I've got tennis issues. Tomorrow will be Ellen's last match before going back to work and now they've decided that I can't play til I pay them. I told them I'll pay as soon as I get the darn bonus check from the old/new job, but I guess that's not good enough.
-
Something like two weeks ago? I keep asking XBF and he's getting annoyed. He mentioned Saturday that he thought it would be in by Monday, but obviously it wasn't.
I love playing tennis, but now I'm so disgusted I'm ready to quit. I don't feel like driving out to captain the match tomorrow either, but it's Ellen's last match, so I should be there for her. -
Those trips for WWII veterans are run by a volunteer organization called Honor Flights and if you are interested they always need volunteers.
The organization is Honor Flights, they sponsor trips for veterans to come to DC and view the memorial for their war. Their biggest effort right now is focused on the new WWII memorial. (as the veterans from that war are quickly dying off)
They were recruiting at a USO event I was volunteering at recently. They look for people to escort/assist the veterans throughout the trip. Ideally they want people that can take the trip with the veterans. (but the escorts pay their own way) They also want people to get the veterans to the airport, and greet the veterans when the flights come and go. The like to organize cheering crowds at the airports if possible.

GD, that is rough that the old/new job hasn't paid you yet. One more good reason why you quit that job. Always bad idea to work for someone who doesn't pay you on time even if if is a bonus check. Hope you are getting some rest and can get rid of the bugs.
I forgot to mention, yes a nice tribute to the Navy Personnel. I had a cousin in the Navy stationed at the nuclear facility somewhere in Florida. He was honorably discharged due to a medical issue. The only other family to be in the services was a second cousin in the Canadian Air Force, who was working for United Airlines till they laid him off a couple of years ago.
Wow, TF on your daughter's pregancy. I agree with 2Popoki on that her leaving a note instead of telling you face to face says she was afraid of your reaction.
Busy day here and I am hoping the day goes by fast. Need to go out and buy a lotto ticket tonight. Mega lotto at $145 million ($65 million after lump sum payout and taxes). Odds are only one in 176 million. I wonder if one would have better chances playing the roulette table in Vegas. Oh well.

Definitely not going to yoga. I just got back from my endocrinology class and I am exhausted from just learning for an hour and a half; I can't imagine exercising for that long. Sigh. My nose has been like a faucet that you can't blow, my throat kills, and I feel like I'm not getting enough oxygen.
I was going to make nachos when I got home from class but of course I was out of nacho chips! Darn! I decided to try to make them a different way, so instead I cut the bell peppers (I had 1/2 a red and 1/2 a green left from when I made that chili) into chip like sizes, and then I put refried beans, corn, tomatoes, and cheese ontop of the pepper "chips". They will be out in the oven in about ten so we'll see how it goes.
I hate feeling sick.

They keep telling me that they're not paying me the bonus until they get the check from the company I set them up with. XBF told me thy already filmed the segment - don't know why thye'd do that before getting the payment. It's past the 45 days they had to pay.
I'm getting good nights of sleep and not so good. I had dog-sitting over the weekend and have been staying over with GG as well. e lives 5 minutes from the gym but 25 minutes from me so it's always a hassle tying to figure things out - getting Bobby his pill, working late etc. I was half an hour late for practice again this morning because I had half an hour drive to get to the tennis club. Better than sleeping with bed bugs at my place or without bed bugs in my car, though.
