Healing Night Shift--May the Rum and Coke flow on!!

(25 posts)
  1. Well the chefs are preparing a seafood buffet tonight. The King Crab legs are amazing in the fresh drawn butter! The salad bar is also in place. A nice tossed salad goes so well with seafood! The fountains are flowing with Rum and Coke, but as always the bartenders are on duty.

Kittehs are just waiting for some attention!

Pull up a chair and share your day, whether just beginning or winding down!

  2. Hi SM!.... long day/week, but good..... did you know today is the opening of Stone Crab season?..... I love them , and I like it that they don't kill the crabs - they take the claws, and then they grow back...... I've always thought that a good way to farm seafood!....

...... hope everyone with the pig flu is doing better, Hubbs is still struggling... I miss the poor guy something terrible!......

.... Son and Daughter are doing great at college - it's Gator Growl beginning tonite, and Son is in charge (director), so he is super busy......

  6. AV I'm hanging in there. I have an out patient procedure and testing on Monday. Doctor--another one--saw me today and miracles never cease--I was rushed and put on the schedule Monday. Could be because I said filing lawsuit. They lost my order! For 2 days they have been telling me Tri-Care hadn't approved the procedure--what a lie I have the paper with the authorization number. Today they finally admitted that they lost the order and the doctor was in surgery yesterday and today.

I also love stone crab. I love sitting at a dock restaurant eating a pile of stone crab at sunset. See I need to go home and visit Dad!

  7. It's so early but I'm heading off, y'all. We don't work at the sale tomorrow but we do on Sunday. And joy of joys - everything is 1/2 price on Sunday which means that it is a total zoo. Tomorrow we are doing a 40+ mile bike ride with a friend.

    Have a great evening, Everyone!

  8. We have Meals On Wheels this week too WWM. I was suppose to deliver Saturday and Sunday, but got replaced. I really don't know if I could actually make it through the route. I love delivering--I have made some nice friends and had wonderful visits. One of my regulars passed away last month. That is the part that is hard. I drive by the house and know we will never talk again.

  11. SM, I hope you have been doing alright, and that you will soon get the answers you so richly deserve! I will take a lump crabmeat salad, please, with a nice hot mango/ginger tea. The cold weather has finally reached us - we went from record heat above 90 yesterday to 65 this AM, and likely upper 50s tomorrow AM - highs in the 70s. I love late fall/early winter in the South. We are in fall break at Tulane, so yesterday my daughter and I went out for lunch and shopping - so nice to have soem time with her! Today was kitty rehab (Hester had skin biopsy for her condition) and yard work.

  12. Evening SM,AV,Cheri,WWM and Buttercup. Rum and coke sounds just perfect and King crab legs with salad even more perfect. I'll have them with melted butter and also some malt vinegar to dip them in, it's the way we like to eat seafood here.
SM, I'm glad that you finally have some action now, magic word probably did the trick.
WWM, have fun on the bike ride.

  13. Wow, rum & coke fountain and crab legs with butter, mmmmm...
It's unusually cold here in joisey; our woodburner is going and Leela is comfy cozy in front of it.

  14. Hi NC, you snuck in while I was typing.
It's started to rain here, Airy and I were wheeling barrow loads of firewood from the front of the house and stacking it in the basement in the rain. Now we are resting and trying to cool off our very red faces. It was heavy, hot hard work for an hour.
    Hi to Joan too.

  15. Well, I'll have to see how many "stone crab" claws the fresh markets come up with tomorrow!.... since the season just opened today, I hope it is a good one!!!

I have never dipped them in malt vinegar, but it sounds good, MS!....usually, I make a ginger sauce, with fresh ginger, mayo, shiricca, lemon juice, garlic, s/p, and fresh thyme and a little cilantro.......

.... I don't usually consume a lot of butter - I can use a little of the "real thing" for cooking/flavor, but mostly I've learned to substitute olive oil for it.....

  16. KK's hubby taught us to dip in butter AV, it is nice but we still prefer the malt vinegar.
Airy and I have just been to the SPCA looking at the mature cats. We're looking for a really friendly one to tempt Mum with as she is missing having a cat since Mitzi went over the bridge almost a year ago. There was one possibility but for some reason all his white feet and chin were stained yellow and they weren't sure why. Mum needs a healthy cat.

  17. Mmmmmmmm, virtual crustaceans. And to think, a century ago, lobster was considered poor folks' food; now I see the prices at Red Lobster and wonder how this sea meat was ever poor folks' food. I know the sea meat featured on the night shift tonight is crab legs, but I had to throw in the lobster tidbit. I was watching a show on the Food Channel a few years ago featuring a crab feast of some sort near the Chesapeake Bay; not being from New England or the Atlantic Seaboard, I had no clue that the cooks dump cooked crabs onto newspaper-covered tables and the diners have at the little critters -- no knives, no forks, maybe a mallet to break the shell, no plates! I was stunned; it looked as if these otherwise well-spoken, reasonably well-behaved people had reverted to Neanderthal or even Cro-Magnon times. I thought I was a messy eater when I eat ribs; I might as well have been eating sushi by comparison. I could use that rum and coke.

  18. LOL Vicki!...... why, us "Southerners" would say, that's a "low country boil".......

....... in the south eastern quadrant, we take a big pot of boiling water, we throw in corn, potatoes, carrots, sausage, chicken, shrimp, and any fresh shellfish (i.e. lobster, crab, whatever is in season)...... when it's done - we cover the table with newspaper, dump the pot on the paper, and a "feeding frenzy" ensues!..... and you're right - the Cro-Magnon comes out in all of us!... hehehehehehe

  19. Evenin', AV! Thanks for your advice about the mortgage rate--I just don't want to be ripped off. I emailed you (this time, I didn't delete half of the message) :)

I regret the day I ever tasted lobster---I love it!

And, I don't regret the day I first tasted rum and coke. . . :)

  21. How are you enjoying your job, AV? You sure do sound soooooo busy!

Posted 2 years ago by FondaHonda #

  22. I actually like it a lot!... the people are very nice, and I enjoy the challenge of taking on the competition in the market place.......

.... now I'm hungary for low country boil!.... Stone Crab season opened today, so I guess I'll be at the market tomorrow seeing who has the best prices!... I hope Hubbs gets better soon, he loves seafood too!... LOL

  23. *Pushes open the door, it moves with a gentle creak to reveal a mosh pit of sleeping kitties. One or two stretch or open their eyes curiously, then head back to sleep.*

Making myself a cup of tea and looking at a few threads before I head off to bed. I am so tired of the rain -- we had thunderstorms tonight too. Airy must be wondering what kind of spring she's come home to!

  25. Hi, Deb, I have wafted over to the morning caff! How are you today? Are you at work or enjoying a bit of time off? How was your time with your daughter? Are you going to any yard sales today? Did you find those shelves for the crew to sit on and survey the world from...?
