Hello,
I got a kitten just over a week or so ago and have noticed he has very smelly farts. His poo's seem normal and i've felt his belly which doesn't feel swollen or anything. I was wondering if anyone could know why this was happening, because surely it can't be healthy??!!
The food he is on is Hills Science Plan Healthy Development Kitten Food. Could this be the problem? Should i encorporate some wet food into his diet as well?
He is 9 weeks old btw.

Awwww........poor little fella. I think it's ok. When we first brought home a pair of kittens, one of them farted quite a bit. He was originally called "Basil Fawlty" for the character in "Fawlty Towers", but we took to calling him "Basil Farty" for awhile because he had kitty gas (lololol)
He got over it once he got used to his new home. Now his sister.... who turned 16 over Labor Day, sometimes gets kitty gas. Just like older people... :-)
If it keeps up for a month or so, you might contact your vet, otherwise, laugh at the gas and enjoy your baby. Can we see pictures? We love babies on this site...
It's probably because he's not used to the food. Any sudden change in diet can cause stomach issues. Give it time. If it still continues and he's not in any discomfort don't worry.

when i first brought my baby home, he was recently dewormed and we changed his food from what they were feeding at the shelter. he was a seriously stinky gassy baby. very powerful odors for such a small thing. he eventually grew out of it, i guess, because he no longer noticeable farts. im sure once your kitty's diet settles no matter what you're feeding it should settle down. if it doesnt in a few weeks then a visit to the vet might be in order.

For sure feed wet food...if you can feed all wet.
The soy or corn in SD could be causing it. IMO Hills is overpriced junk...you can do a lot better for its price.

Skyron - not especially bad no, just your run of the mill fart smell. Not likely to cause permanent nasal damage, but you wouldn't choose to have your nose anywhere close...!

I'd say it's the luck of the draw. Some kittens are simply farters. My Kensho is like that although it's better at 3 months than it was at 2. But his farts can peel the paint of the walls. They're vicious! You just have to grin and bear it. Maybe buy some incense. I think most kittens grow out of it.
At the age of three months, Rotley did a mop-up operation on the remains of a piece of coconut cream pie.
I was cradling him in my arms, cooing to him, and suddenly we were both surrounded by a gassy cloud that made him wake up, blinking. He smiled, cuddled, and went back to sleep.
That was five years ago.
My eyebrows and eyelashes are finally growing back.
Hahahahaahahah @ Julie and Emma! Jack's_Mum...Hello! There can many factors lurking behind 'gassy'kitties...good luck with discovering the causes. I will say that my 4 are on a steady diet of both meat and kibble and I don't change brands. Find something that works and try not to veer away from it...it can cause tummy upsets for them. =)

This post made me laugh. Lillie doesn't really fart much, but when she does, it clears the room. For being so small and petite I never imagined her to create such an odour! Poor thing! Lol. I'm convinced she is smiling when she's done it too! Possibly cause she is not the one gagging!

Hi, Jenn, welcome to TDK. It doesn't sound very common but it doesn't sound unusual either. When you say 'discipline her', what are you doing? You don't want to teach your baby to be frightened of you and cats are like kids, they respond better to positive praise etc when they're doing well than to negative attention when they're doing something wrong.
