Where I live (Cleveland, Ohio), winter climatically (if not officially) starts when the first snowflake hits the ground (and we've been darn lucky so far; let's hope the luck stretches into November). When is an appropriate time to put up Christmas/Hanukkah lights? If I do it now while the weather is still reasonably mild, I'll seem to be rushing things, but putting winter holiday lights up while there's three feet of what we like to call 'partly cloudy' falling down will discourage me from completing the task. Any suggestions?

When is a good time to decorate for the winter holidays?

Hi. We always put our front porch icycle lights up the last warmish weekend, any time now, for the very reason you said. We've done it later and frozen too much. We don't turn them on however until Thanksgiving. Wreaths for fall and Thanksgiving go up anytime now. Any yard decorations are more timed to the holiday, for instance pumpkins and scarecrows now. After the 31st the pumpkins and mums stay until the flowers freeze. The weekend after Thanksgiving we get a tree for inside and put up whatever else is going outside. Taking down the lights is another thing, sometimes it's March or whenever the time change happens. We don't like coming home in the dark and those little hanging lights are so cheery!

Thanksgiving weekend for us in Fla. but we don't have the weather to contend with. Also, another good time is when the kitties are around to help.
