  1. Hay cat lovers

I'm new hear now I made a big mistake of feeding my girl normal cat food. I am now feeding her kitten food with adult biscit because she won't eat it, but I'm putting food in her bowl and I keep it up until she has eaten it and I fill it up again now she is really bony but she has a nice size belly she is more than active lol can any one tell me what's goin on and does any one no how much the vet is just for a check up :-)

  2. Welcome to tdk! A bony cat with a big belly ALWAYS means worms. Try having her dewormed first, and see how that goes. You can just pop in to your vet's and ask for a deworming tablet for an adult cat, you shouldn't need a consult just for that. The worm tablets I use (Milbemax) take about a week to do their thing, and after another week my babies start putting weight back on. If this doesn't happen in your case, then I would take kitty to the vet.

  4. Hi Martyn, with deworming such a small kitten it is really important to go to the vet because the wrong dosage would really harm them! What kind of kitten food are you feeing her?

  5. I'm feeding her whiskas oh so fishy.I just weighed her she is almost 5 lbs. And I can give her a dewormer granulel for cats and kittens that's what it says also it says, kittens (ages3to6months) for weaned kittens weighing 2.2kg-4.4kg give one sachet daily for 3 consecutive days. I thinks she will be ok because she is almost 5lbs. What do you guys -ladys think :-)

  6. Fish is really not good for cats - neither is dry food. Could you possibly switch food? It seems to me that the cats fed the species appropriate diets don't get fleas and worms; at least that is what happened with mine once they got fed raw.

  7. What can I feed her then?:-) and I have hurd dry food is good because it helps there teeth and wet food is ment to cause plak??

  8. No, dry food is not at all good for a cat's teeth - it shatters on impact (or they swallow it whole) and just coats the teeth and gums with deep-heated baked sprayed-on fat. It is grain, which cats cannot process well.

I see you are in the isle of wight - can you order a wet commercial food called Lily's kitchen? Sometimes health food shops or specialist shops will order for you. It is excellent, an english brand, organic, gives your baby all she needs: http://www.lilyskitchen.co.uk/food-for-your-cat
Otherwise, you could consider the very best diet, a raw meat diet:

About the worming sachet, I would give less than one for your kitten, as she is quite small at under 5lbs at 5 and a half months. Maybe try a half to see how she gets on, but the best option would be to take her to the vet for a check-up. But ask the vet to give her only a kitten dose - please be insistent about this, as an adult dose is too much for her, despite anything the vet might say. It does sound as if she could have worms though.

  9. Hay thanks I will have a look at pets at home they have loads of stuff for kittens they might evan have the worm tab. I try to put have a packet in with her food and she will not eat it so I'll see if I can get the tabs. What is lillys kitchen lol sounds cool.

  10. Look at their website link I put on my post above. It's a really good complete food and you can feed your kitten the cat one, it makes no difference as long as they are getting the right nutrition, which this food contains. Maybe you could even order some online yourself. It works out expensive enough, but is really worth it, as your kitten will grow up healthy and strong and happy, and you will save on vet's bills in the end! If you can't get Lily's at all, do some online research and try to find a wet food with the highest meat content possible, pure meat, not derivative, also one that is grain-free. Grains are unnecessary and bad for cats, but cheap cat foods are full of them - they use them as fillers so they can make more money out of cheap ingredients. I'm sure Furry Friends will come back on here and give you some good food-thread links from this site.
