  1. Hi all! I adopted a feral barn kitten about a week and a half ago! The farmer down the road drowns all the barn kittens and I trapped this one and brought it home to raise as my own. At first she was a total terror- yowling, hissing, moaning, scratching and hiding, obviously terrified, poor thing! EVERYONE told me it would be impossible or simply too hard, and that I'd get my heart broken and my eyes scratched out just trying.

Well, as I write this, I have my sweet Kitten, Smokey Joe, curled up on my chest trying to bat my fingers as they type. It's only been 9 days and this is a huge success story. I have written it all up on my blog:

It includes a little video of her. I think this is a great story to read, and will help and inspire anyone in the same position! I'm very proud of Smokey J and would really love to share my story to encourage others with feral kittens not to give up, it is possible and so rewarding!

If anyone has any idea about how old she is after seeing the video, let me know! I think about 4 months?

  2. SmokeyJ, do you have any snip-like organisations in your area (spay/neuter intervention programmes)? If you dont have one, I would seriously consider calling the SPCA on the farmer. If he gets them neutered, he can have all the benefits of rat catchers on his farm, without having to drown the babies. Thats horrible. I cant believe in this day and age people still do that.

  5. A little update....Kitten met my dog. She fell in love with her immediately. She purs and rubs up against the corgi and trys to knead her paws on her. She's so in love, it's amazing. My dog protects her from the other cat (who is not taking to her so well) but also gets a little annoyed at all the attention....

  6. Oh my...he drowns the kittens?! But..how?! I can't even imagine someone doing that. I agree with the others..is there an org that will spay/neuter the animals?! The poor babies.

  7. SmokeyJoe looks so happy! and so lucky that you rescued him from evil farmer. Please do as the others have suggested and see if there is some place that can assist in getting the kitties fixed. Or find a rescue that will be willing to remove all the cats from this horrible man.

  9. I haven't even seen the video yet, I am horrified that someone could do that and no one doing anything about it!! Please do something, you would be more than a hero if you help to help all those poor little guys! what a terrible death they are suffering these innocent cats!

  10. The farmer needs to be brought up on animal cruelty charges immediately! Your baby is very lucky, she is so cute!
