  1. I saw him in the back room just a couple of minutes ago. I was going to go take a shower in the bathroom back there, but I am a little too shaken up right now.

For those who don't know about the ghost cat is, here is the story of the ghost cat:

    --------

Back in the early 1980's, not long after my grandfather passed away (I guess it must have been 1982 or 1983) we had a very strange visitor here in this very house. My grandmother and grandfather had a cat named Ya-hoo (pronounced yay-hoo). He got his name from when my grandparents were taking care of him for us when he was just a little kitten. My mom, dad, and I had gotten a cute little Siamese kitten. My grandparents had gotten one of the other kittens from the same litter but it passed away so my mom decided to see if they would want to keep our cute little kitten. She asked them to take care of the baby knowing that they would probably bond with it. My grandfather did not know I had trained the kitten to climb up my leg (very painful when I was wearing shorts!) and up the rest of my body then sit on my shoulder. He was leaning against a tree watching the kitten as it played in the front yard when the kitten decided to climb up his pant leg. My grandfather told us that the first thing he said when he got down from the top of that tree was, "YA-HOO!!! That's how the kitten got its unusual name. My grandmother hated the name Ya-hoo and always called the kitty Snoopy. I will refer to him as Snoopy for the rest of this story.

Snoopy was a very mean cat. My grandfather trained him to be this way and was proud of how mean this cat was. Of course, Snoopy was never mean to my grandmother and - besides my grandparents - my mom, dad, and I were the only ones who could pet this cat. I loved to play with Snoopy when I came over here to stay the weekend with my grandparents and often went home with my hand covered in bloody scratches. My cousins also spent the weekends here but neither of them could get near that cat without being hissed at or chased into another room. Chris would get the worst of it while his brother, Tim, would try to ignore the cat and never let the cat chase him around although he did get attacked more than once.

My grandfather passed away in 1981 and Snoopy calmed down just a little bit although Tim and Chris still had to be careful of him. My other cousin, Jeremy, was also spending the weekends here at my grandmother's house by then and he got along with Snoopy better than the other two and, I believe, he too was able to pet the cat on occasion.

One night, about 6 months or so after my grandfather passed away, we started noticing the shadow of a cat in the windows. We thought maybe Snoopy was in the in the windows but, whenever we would look behind the curtains, there was nothing there. We thought that there might be something outside making the shadow but the shadow appeared in several different places in the windows. One night when I was in the kitchen, I saw the shadow cat clearly in the kitchen window. The curtains in the kitchen were somewhat see-through and they were a much lighter fabric than the other windows so, not only was there a shadow, but I could sort of see what looked like a Siamese cat and the curtains also bulged out a little as if there was a cat there. It was night time and dark so I couldn't be certain of what I was seeing. I went over to look behind the curtain. There was nothing there.

The shadow cat or ghost cat as we started to call it appeared for several months in the windows and was seen both day and night always in the windows and - as we would later figure out - always when Snoopy was asleep and in a different room.

Then, one night, I saw the ghost cat. The shadow was in the living room window and it showed up clearly as the headlights from a car exiting the mobile home park across the street shined in the window. I couldn't believe how strong and clear the shadow was so I was certain that there had to actually be a cat there this time. Snoopy had gone to bed with my grandmother so I wondered if maybe one of the strays from outside had gotten into the house when the door was open. I went over and carefully peeked behind the curtains and there it was - a Siamese cat that looked a lot like Snoopy. I knew it wasn't Snoopy because Snoopy had gone to bed in my grandmother's room. It turned to look at me and, when I looked away to call one of my cousins to come see it, it disappeared. This was the first actual sighting of the ghost cat but not the last.

The ghost cat continued to appear in the windows but one night it surprised us all. Chris and I were in the kitchen getting a snack and Snoopy came up to me and allowed me to pet him. Chris was nervous because Snoopy used to chase him but this time Snoopy just ignored him. Normally, Snoopy would not accept food like lunch meat but he ate several bites that I handed to him and was not even getting agitated when I would pet him while he was eating which was very odd. And his fur was incredibly soft. He also purred as I petted him which was unusual. To me, the purring sound was very loud as if it echoed around the room but Chris didn't seem to notice it. A few minutes later, Snoopy went into the living room and sat down under the pull-out sofa bed that Tim and Chris slept on when they visited. Tim was already in bed but awake and reading so I don't think he saw the cat. I went in a couple of minutes later and Snoopy was gone. I asked Time where Snoopy was and he said, "Snoopy went to bed with grandma a couple of hours ago." I just stuttered in disbelief, "But--But I--I was just feeding him lunch meat a couple of minutes ago!" Chris, who had come into the room behind me, and I just stared at each other. We knew that there was no way that Snoopy could have gotten out of the bedroom and there was no way we could have confused another cat with Snoopy. There weren't even any other Siamese cats around that house. Chris says he does not remember any of this but I wonder if he is just worried that somebody will think he is crazy if he says he saw the ghost cat too.

If my memory serves me right, Jeremy also saw the ghost cat out in the open and thought it was Snoopy but I cannot be certain of this. I do know that Jeremy saw him several times as a shadow in the window though.

By now, the ghost cat was making regular appearances in front of me. This was when I realized that he only appeared when Snoopy was asleep in another room. Most of the time, I would just catch fleeting glimpses of him or see him clearly in the window where the curtain was open. But one day he made another appearance in the living room.

I was sitting on the couch watching TV while my mother visited with my grandmother in the kitchen. Snoopy - or a cat that looked exactly like him - came in from the kitchen and, as I leaned down to reach out my hand to him, he came up and sniffed my fingers then rubbed up against my hand. His fur was sooo unbelievably soft. Then I realized it wasn't Snoopy. From where I was sitting, I could see into my grandmother's bedroom and see Snoopy laying on my grandmother's bed curled up and asleep. A loud purring sound seemed to echo all around me as I petted the cat. I called my mom and my grandmother into the room.

"This isn't Snoopy", I said as looked down at the cat and continued to pet him, "Snoopy is in the bedroom asleep."

Both my grandmother and my mother watched as I petted the cat but neither seemed too shocked -- a little surprised but not too shocked. After a couple of minutes I looked back up and grinned at both of them then looked down. The cat had disappeared. My mom looked into my grandmother's room at the sleeping Snoopy then back at me. We all were pretty sure of what we had seen.

For quite some time, the ghost cat continued to make his appearances in the windows and, if I remember right, once or twice in front of my grandmother. I quit going over to my grandmother's house for the weekends shortly after I turned 18 so, other than a few times of seeing his shadow in the windows, I never really saw him again after the time he appeared in the living room. I believe he continued to appear right up until Snoopy passed away a couple of years later but I am not sure. One thing is certain though, the ghost cat never appeared again after Snoopy passed away.

We have a couple of theories about the ghost cat -- or I should say my mom, grandmother, and I had a couple of theories. The ghost cat was either Snoopy's astral projection or maybe my grandfather using Snoopy's appearance to come back to visit us. I believe more in the astral projection theory but, since Snoopy and the ghost cat are both gone, we will never know.

  2. The worst thing is that, because it is so warm, I am sleeping in the living room on an air mattress. The door to the back room is only a few feet away from where I lay my head!! Normally Shiva sleeps in there with me, but she is refusing to go into the living room tonight. As I type this, she is in here in the bedroom by my feet. She won't even follow me into the kitchen!!

I do not like this at all. Looks like I either stay up all night or sleep with the TV and the lights on. I am glad I don't have to get up early tomorrow.

  3. The ghost cat has never harmed you or anyone so don't be afraid of it OW. I'm not sure what its appearance means at this time. Have you been able to link its appearance in the past to events?

Posted 4 months ago by KapitiKats in NZ #

  4. OW, I agree with KK, from all your stories of Snoopy aka ghost cat, no harm has come to you or yours so just make peace with it.

Posted 4 months ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  5. Perhaps your granddad needs to check on you, OW. I don't think you should be afraid (though that is easy for me to say, from this distance...)

Posted 4 months ago by jcat #

  6. If this ghost cat appeared when Snoopy was alive, do you think it could be the littermate that your grandparents had first? That one didn't live long enough to become mean...

  7. It seems like the ghost cat always gave you comfort with its soft fur and loud purrs. Maybe he showed up to give you comfort because you had been so upset by the mean email earlier. Sounds like he is a loving kitty who is a guardian for you.

  8. I think this is awesome, don't be afraid of his presence, rather find comfort in it :)

  9. Legend Says:This is the time of year when the ones (humans/creatures) who have passed on can be in contact with ones still on earth...the veil is temporarily parted! Perhaps it is a little visitor from the past!

  10. Fascinating story OW...it really does appear astral projective in my opinion. Whatever you do..don't lose sleep over it. I would love to have a Ghost Cat! =)

  11. OW, I've had experiances with many ghost cats. Always remember that they are only there to comfort you. I have seen my kits who have pasted to the bridge and some I've never met before in my house. There is nothing frightening about this. They are just there to keep an eye on you and comfort you. Sometimes I think that the kits I see, that I have never seen before, are spirits of another kind that appear to me as cats so that I won't fear them.

They are special beings with a purpose that you may or may not ever know. Just enjoy them as you would your own.

  12. I've had a few experiences myself in the past w/the ghosts of humans...scared me to bits. But I agree w/the others OW...I would definately feel comfort at the sight of a ghost cat. I think your visitor may just be doing a check-in on you.

  13. The strange thing about this is the timing... do any of you remember when he last appeared two years ago - close to Halloween?

Last night was not a good night for sleep. I kept hearing things moving around in the back room. Not only that, but the lamp that I had turned on in the living room shut off at one point when I had dosed off. The TV stayed on though, and my roommate was wondering why I was sleeping with all this light...

    Posted 4 months ago by owlwatcher_974 #

  14. My roommate just woke up and told me that he had to go into the back room to reset the DSL modem last night, and a bunch of my computer stuff had been knocked off of one of the shelves. But I didn't hear anything fall last night - just some stuff being moved around. He said he checked the windows and they were all closed, so we know that nobody got into the room.

What makes me even more nervous is that I am never sure whether the ghost cat that appears now is actually Snoopy or something else. All I know for certain is that the whole back room feels ... wrong. It's not just a feeling like something is looking over my shoulder, it's a feeling of something being all around me. I can feel it a little bit in the living room too.

My roommate will be in class most of the day today, and for once I am not looking forward to having the house to myself.

  15. OW...could any of your own furrbabies have gotten in there to be the 'messer-upper"...okay,I know that's not a word but,you know what I mean. :)

I think it's time for a deep breath...the hair on my neck just stood up reading your latest post.

Posted 4 months ago by feral #

  16. OW, whenever you are feeling "spooked", read the 23rd psalm from the bible (I think it is the 23rd) You know, "the lord is my shepard...."

This can be very comforting in times like this.

And you are right about the time of the year, everything seems to grow more powerful as Halloween gets closer.

If this starts to get to be a REAL problem, please e-mail me. I will be happy to try and point you in the right direction!

Posted 4 months ago by debsterwiz #

  17. No, none of the furbabies could have gotten in there. The door was closed all night. Besides, Shiva was the only one in the house and she is refusing to go into the room even though she usually follows me back there in the mornings when I go to take a shower in the back bathroom - which I have to do in a few minutes and I am really dreading it. I think I will let my roommate take his shower first this morning.

    Posted 4 months ago by owlwatcher_974 #

  18. Good Idea on the shower OW...lol...forgive me for the laugh. I'd probably do the same thing.

Posted 4 months ago by feral #

  19. I just watched a movie called Ghost Cat this weekend. It's not a scary movie, it's sort of a cute movie. When my very first cat ever passed when I was young I'd still see her tail go past the end of my bed or feel her jump up for a lil while after she was gone. I haven't seen Calvin or his brother though, and I think I'd feel comforted if I did. Halloween is my favorite time of year because stuff like that seems to happen more often. If you like getting spooked, I'd recommend seeing the movie Paranormal Activity. It will definitely make you wanna sleep with the lights on.

  20. Well, nothing strange happened when I went back to reset the DSL modem a few minutes ago. I decided to wait to take my shower until my roommate gets back from class.

But while I was taking my online math quiz a few minutes ago, my dog started barking and I could tell from the way it sounded like she was running down the driveway that she was loose. Apparently my roommate forgot to put her on the chain when he opened the gate to leave for class. I ran outside and called her back to the house (she was chasing after a little dog that was running loose).

While I was putting her on the chain, my neighbor came up to the fence and said that his wife's feelings were hurt because we had told them we could not adopt one of their cats, and they saw our new cat in the window. I told him we did not have a new cat (all the while thinking this is eerily similar to what happened last time the ghost cat appeared), and he asked who the white cat belonged to. I asked if he was seeing the ghost of the siamese cat again, and he said this was not a siamese, but rather a solid white cat with dark eyes. I assured him we did not have another cat and that I did not know what he had seen.

Now I have even more questions, first of all - why is this happening again, and why are there always two ghost cats??!! Isn't one enough??!!

I have to go into the back room in a few minutes because I have to get some stuff ready for the people from the freecycle list to pick up, but I really, really, do not want to go back there now.

    Posted 4 months ago by owlwatcher_974 #

  21. OW - in your mind, clear the room clockwise with white light. Tell the cat, or whatever entity is there, that you only alone those of the highest vibration in your home, those who come in love, and that anyone or anything else must leave. Actually, you can tell them all that they must leave. It's divine law that they must move on.
I'm sorry that this upsets you the way that it does.. I can appreciate your apprehension.

  22. As I was in the back room getting the bag of stuff ready for the person from the freecycle list, I was nearly startled to death when one of the photo albums I had put up on top of a shelf fell to the floor. The photos went everywhere and I just got finished picking all of them up and putting them into a new album except for a few of the photos which I have sitting in front of me. I am looking for one of my smaller photo albums for these.

One of the photos is of my car parked in back by the fruit trees at my parent's house. This photo was taken when I still lived there. As I look at this photo, I am reminded of something that happened one night when a friend of mine came to my house wanting to know if there was somewhere he could sleep because he had nowhere to sleep that night.

This happened around 1986 or 1987 when my friend Sean (the one who married the idiot I used to work with) was basically living on the streets. He hated the house his family lived in and was actually scared of the place so he rarely went home.

On this particular night, my mom was at bingo and I was home alone when Sean knocked on the door and asked if there was a place where he could sleep. Since I did not have permission to allow him to sleep in the house, I told him he could sleep out in the shed, which was fixed up like a small apartment complete with a bed and a TV.

As I walked out the back door, I noticed that the yard felt creepier than usual. It was cold, clear, night and the moon was shining bright. There were no clouds at all in the sky - it was the kind of night where you could see for miles from the right vantage point.

We were about halfway down the driveway when we noticed the fog rolling in to the yard. It was only a few inches deep, and it was thick enough to completely cover the ground -- and it was only in my back yard!! It was rolling in from where the fruit trees were and had gotten close to where we had stopped halfway up the driveway, when I noticed the strange lights and shadows in my car.

I started to run toward my car, but Sean grabbed my arm. "Mary, NO! Don't do it!" He practically yelled at me in sheer fright, but I pulled away and ran up to my car.

I put my hands on my car and began to pray, then told whatever was in my car to leave my car alone. The lights and shadows immediately disappeared, and the inside of my car was dark and empty as if nothing had happened.

But there was still the matter of the fog that was now swirling around my feet. I turned to look at Sean just as he took off running down the driveway toward the street. I took off running too, and as I stepped onto the patio, I turned to see the fog following me down the driveway. It was at least a couple of feet deep by now and it stayed in my yard rather than spilling over into the neighbor's yard. I turned to run to the back door and saw that the fog was also coming from the other side of the house as well.

I bolted into the house and locked the door, staring in horror out the window as the fog covered the patio. At that moment the phone rang. It was Sean, who was calling from a convenience store several blocks away. To this day I have no idea how he got there so fast!

I was telling him about the fog, and as I went back to look out the window, I saw my mom's car in the driveway and the fog retreating back up the driveway toward the fruit trees. My mom didn't seem to believe us when we told her what had happened, even though I had pointed out the fog to her when she first got there.

I still have no explanation for what happened that night, and part of me does not want to know. But this event was only one of many scary things that happened at that house.

Uh oh... I just heard another noise from the back room. I really hate being the only person here right now.

    Posted 4 months ago by owlwatcher_974 #

  23. The noise turned out to be something from next door. But when I went into the back bedroom, I saw the shadow of a cat in the window. I pulled the curtains back and there was nothing there.

  24. I Love anything pertaining to spooky & this wreeks of it. Bordering on creepy. I wish I could be there with you to experience it. Maybe if you open the curtain for now until your roommate gets home, maybe the ghost kitty will go away.

  25. Wow. It's almost funny reading this because we had a VERY similar occurrence at my grandmother's house a long time ago.

My cousin's cat was pregnant and ended up giving birth to 8 kittens (two black kittens, 3 black and white, a tabbie and two calicos), only to be hit by a car a few days later. My grandma ended up rearing all of the kittens and when they were old enough, she had gotten rid of all but one. She kept the littlest black one because he was the "survivor" of the group.

We called the cat Bitsy because he was so small. He actually grew up to be quite a large cat, but the name had stuck.

Now, around 11 months later, my grandmother kept noticing weird occurrences. She would be petting Bitsy in the kitchen, only to look up and see him walking across the hallway! We only caught glimpses of this other cat, and my grandmother had decided that this was a ghost cat (she was thinking it was the mother cat that had passed on).

We saw this other cat quite a few times, but never in the same vicinity of Bitsy. If Bitsy was around, you would only catch glimpses, but if you knew that Bitsy was in the other room, the ghost cat would come up and let you pet them. You could pet her for a while and then disappear around the corner

After some time of being seen, we had finally found out what the ghost cat was. One of the ladies that took the other black kitten had called my grandmother letting her know that the other kitten had ran away. With this new, my grandma decided that she would put the ghost cat story to rest. She had me take bitsy for a while and ended up catching the ghost cat when it came near her. We had finally brought them together. The ghost cat wasn't a ghost cat at all, but actually Bitsy's twin sister that had somehow come back to the house that it was raised at and let in (probably by someone thinking that she was Bitsy). Her and Bitsy kept their charade going for nearly 6 months!

The only way that we knew that this cat was the twin sister was that through further examination of the ghost cat, she had a mildly crooked tail that she had gotten from having her tail slammed in the door.

Sometimes I wonder if cats do these things to mess with us!

Posted 4 months ago by MouchoisMelvin #

  26. MM,
That is a cool story. I am glad that the mystery of your ghost cat was solved. In my case, the ghost cat was truly a ghost - he was identical to Snoopy and there were no other Siamese cats around that could have gotten into the house. Also, the ghost cat quit coming around when Snoopy died.

I just wish I knew what was bringing him back now.

Well everybody, I have to go take a shower now and I am not looking forward to going into the back bathroom. But while I remember, I better write about this. While I was taking my math practice quiz earlier, the neighbors came to the door. They both insisted that I had another cat in this house. They said they saw it in the kitchen. Well, I let them come in and look around to prove I wasn't lying to them. We went into the back room, and we all saw the ghost cat's shadow in the window. The man went over and pulled the curtains open as if he had caught me in a lie, but there was no cat there! I just said, "I told you it was a ghost." They both just stared at me with their mouths open in surprise then made excuses why they had to get home in a hurry. I think they believe me now.

What worries me is that the ghost cat - which may or may not be Snoopy - is now going into both the living room and the kitchen instead of staying mostly in the back room. If he is able to go into the other rooms, what is to stop him from coming into the other bedrooms? For that matter, what is to stop him from paying me a visit when I go to sleep in the living room tonight? I really wish it was cool enough that I could comfortably sleep in my bedroom with the door closed tight.

    Posted 4 months ago by owlwatcher_974 #

  27. OW...is there any way you can snap some pics of this ghost cat? That would be sooooo cool.

Posted 4 months ago by feral #

  28. I have never thought about trying to photograph the ghost. But he appears and disappears so suddenly that it would be nearly impossible to do.

Last night was fairly uneventful, although the back room feels like there is a storm building up in there. I don't like this at all. And Shiva again refused to sleep in the living room with me. She kept begging to be let outside until I went to bed, then she went into the bathroom and huddled next to the bathtub for the remainder of the night. She flew out the door without even bugging me to feed her this morning.

    Posted 4 months ago by owlwatcher_974 #

  29. OW, just snap random digital photos whenever you think something may be going on. You very well might catch the little darlings!
