English instructor has finished reading the thread and says that he and I really need to talk. He has some information for me. Heading out to the cafeteria now.

When we were on the way to the cafeteria, my english instructor (who I will refer to as Tom from now on) ran into his boss who wanted to talk to him. He said he would text me as soon as he was done talking with his boss.
Since the library was closed (they closed nearly an hour early tonight!) I looked around for a computer lab that was open. I finally found one way over in the Physical Science building. I really don't like it here though. I am on the ground floor and the door is supposed to be kept open. Not only that, but I am the only one here in the room! This area of the campus is almost completely empty this time of night.

You won't believe this! The white cat is in here!! I had just logged in to the my math lab, when I felt a cat rubbing against my legs. I looked down to see a white cat, but it didn't dawn on me that this was 'the' white cat. I reached down to pet her, and she looked up at me. That was when I saw that there were just empty, black holes where her eyes should be. At first I was afraid, but then she jumped up on the desk and sat there purring. I couldn't help but reach out and pet her. She is sooooo sweet!! But.... what happened to this poor babies eyes? What happened to her in her life that, as a ghost, she just has empty black holes where her eyes should be? I am fighting back tears as I pet her. She is not evil like that other white cat that appeared last time... this was somebody's baby! Sweet, sweet little baby...
Uh-oh... what's that outside the door??!! It's one of them..it's right in front of the door.. i have to get out of here now!

I am at a fast food place that has wi-fi writing this using my netbook. When that - I don't know if it was a person in costume or what - came into the computer room at the school, I managed to escape through a door that led to another classroom, which had a class still in session!
Without even bothering to explain, I made my way through the classroom and out the door. At that point Tom texted me asking me to meet him by the library. Since the cafeteria was now closed, we decided to meet here to talk.
Tom has told me a lot about the 'parking lot prowlers,' and I am finding out that there is a lot that the school hasn't told us. I'll fill you all in later. I need to shut this computer off now as the batteries are getting low.
Oh, one more thing. Tom might be posting later as he has a story he wants to tell.

Hello,
This is Tom. I am Mary's friend and English professor of semesters past. As she mentioned in her last posts, there is a lot that the school is not telling the students and faculty as they are trying to avoid scaring people away from the school. One piece of information that is being withheld is that the so-called Parking Lot Prowlers have been spotted all over campus. During the windstorm on Tuesday night, several of them were spotted in the north building during classes. I believe that this is an important piece of the puzzle as part of the north building is in the middle of demolition. There are other parts of the puzzle that Mary and I were able to piece together during our conversation this evening, but I will let her tell you what our suspicions are. For tonight I have come to tell you a story.Twenty years ago, on the campus of a school where I worked, there was a huge library. This building had four floors and three sets of stairs. There was one set on either end of the library, and one in the middle. Both the south and middle sets of stairs ended on the third floor. But the stairs on the north end of this library went up to the fourth floor, which consisted of a walkway that dead ended at a door leading to a raised walkway that connected the library to the admissions building.
The library was open until 10 o'clock at night on most nights, although it was usually quite empty after eight. One night, a young lady climbed the north stairs all the way to the fourth floor, and jumped from the walkway to her death at the bottom of the stairs. Nobody knew why she killed herself, but there were many rumors. One of these rumors is that she was devastated over the loss of a loved one, and a broken relationship.
Now some of these next details may be disturbing to some being that you are all cat lovers, however I must give these details as they are an important part of the story.
According to these rumors, the young lady had a blind cat that she loved more than anything in the world. She also had a boyfriend - another student at this school - that was extremely jealous of this cat. One day while she was at school, her boyfriend killed her precious kitty. She immediately broke off the relationship when she found out what he had done, but her heart was broken. Her beautiful cat was dead, and her boyfriend whom she also loved had betrayed her.
Not long after the young lady died her ghost was spotted on the fourth floor walkway. Many sightings of her ghost were reported over the years until the library caught fire and burned to the ground. A new library was built in its place, and it seemed that the ghost was gone for good - until now. Maybe these sightings are just stories people have made up for Halloween, but maybe she has come back in search of the man who destroyed her life.
The End?
I hope you have enjoyed my story.
Mary,
Please e-mail me as soon as possible so I can get your e-mail address. I received an e-mail that was sent to all the faculty, and I would like to share it with you. I believe you will find it very interesting. I would also like to meet up with you at the library tomorrow to discuss things further. If we are to solve this puzzle it will have to be done before the holiday is over. -
Blind cat??!! Hmmm...
Anyway, I emailed Tom and he forwarded me the email he was talking about. According to the email the construction on the new building next to the Library has been temporarily halted because a construction worker fell while working on the framework. He wasn't badly injured, but he refuses to go back to work. Seems the reason he fell was because he was scared by one of those parking lot prowlers. The email went on to warn the faculty to be on the lookout - especially at night - and to report any sightings of the prowlers to security immediately.
I am kind of out of it today. I barely got any sleep last night. I kept hearing noises in the back room, and I must have gone in there at least 10 times to check it out. No sightings of the ghost cat though. Also my dog was going crazy barking at something all night last night. I don't know what she was barking at, but from the sound of her bark there was no way I was going to open the door or look out the window to see what was going on.
Shiva just reminded me that I need to feed her by meowing loudly from her hiding place in the bathroom. She hasn't come out of that room all night - not even to use the litter box. My roommate got mad at her because she used the bathtub to do her business, and it made a very stinky mess. Still she won't budge from that room.

While I was in the living room eating breakfast, I heard a very loud noise coming from the back room. I went back to investigate, and both of the ghost cats were back there sitting on the floor together in the middle of the room staring at me expectantly as if waiting for something. Although I was more than a little freaked out by the sight of both cats, I looked around to see what had made the loud noise, and I saw a box of newspapers that had fallen from a cabinet above the closet.
With the cats watching me, I began to sort through the newspapers. That was when I found a piece of an article. It was just the headline and a line or two. The headline read, "Student Falls to Her Death in School Library."
I tried to call Tom, but he is not answering his cell phone. He said he wuld be watching this thread. So Tom, if you read this, could you please call me? I have some questions for you.

I just got back from lunch with my aunt, and in a few minutes I will be heading down to the school to meet up with Tom. Am taking my netbook with me so I can keep you all updated.
Karenopa,
That casket predates the girl's suicide by many, many years as my grandparents owned this property for at least 20 years before I was born, so it's not her.My roommate is in his room with the door closed as I write this, and it makes me feel almost like I am alone in the house. The way the sunlight is shining through the windows reminds me of when I lived with my parents. My dad usually worked out of town, and my mom went to stay with him on the weekends.
That house always felt kind of creepy to me, and on this particular weekend, I was listening to my stereo with my bedroom door open. It was late in the day,and the sun was shining in through the dining room curtains casting long shadows into the living room. I really did not like the way the shadows looked so I turned on the living room light to try to make the place feel a little more cheerful. But it didn't work. The dining room had a cold, damp feeling to it that reminded me of a cemetery.
Feeling totally creeped out by the dining room's atmosphere, which was spilling out into the living room, I took my battery operated keyboard outside to the back patio. I stayed out there playing my keyboard until it started getting late, and I started getting hungry for dinner.
I went back into the house, and started making myself some dinner, but I could not get over the the feeling in that dining room. I really hated having to go through the dining room to get from the kitchen to the living room where I ate dinner.
Later that night, as I was sitting in the living room watching TV, I heard a strange sound in my parent's bedroom. I went in and turned on the lights, but there was nothing there. By now, the whole house had that cemetery feeling, and I was really grateful for having my cat Spice there to keep me company. But even having her there did not make me feel any better when I heard that back door open. This was a common thing in that house - hearing the back door open when it was locked and bolted shut.
I went in to check things out, and of course the door was still locked and bolted shut. At that point I actually ran back into the living room where I huddled under a blanket on the couch. A few seconds later, I heard heavy footsteps (but saw nothing!) going from the kitchen through the dining room and into the guest bedroom, which was directly on the other side of the wall from me.
Even though I knew I should check the guest bedroom right away, it took me a few minutes to convince myself to go in there. Finally I went in and opened the door to the guest room. There was nobody in there.
I stayed in the living room with the lights on for the rest of the night.
Well, I better go now. Tom just texted me to let me know he is going to be at the school in less than 15 minutes.

I just arrived at the school a few minutes ago. For some reason they have the parking lots closest to the library roped off, and I had to park way on the other side of the campus. Even in daylight I was nervous about walking all the way across campus from where my car was parked to the library. Tom was already in the library when I got here. I am using the school computer to save my netbook's batteries, but the lights keep flickering, and I am worried about the power going out. I really wish we could get a break from this wind.
My roommate just texted me. There was a loud bang that sounded like it came from the back room. He went back there and found a metal box that came from my mom's house lying on its side with the contents spilling out. I asked him what was in the box, and one of the items was the name tag my mom wore when she worked as a nurse. He also found one of my mom's pay stubs from the service she used to work for when she was a private duty nurse. I didn't even know she kept any of that stuff.
One of my most frightening experiences happened back when my mom had just quit working for that company. I was about nine years old when my used to care for was an elderly gentleman who I will call Mr. Jones. I cannot remember if Mr. Jones was bedridden or if he was able to get up out of the bed sometimes. Most of the time when I was there he was in his room.
Because the jerk my mom was dating at the time didn't like watching me while my mom worked, I had to go with her to some of her jobs. For the most part, I would sit by myself reading or doing my schoolwork while my mom was taking care of her patients. Sometimes I would play out in the front yard when we went to the Jones' house.
Mr. Jones lived with his daughter, a very large, overweight woman who was not in the best of health herself. She had a difficult time getting into the bathtub so she rarely bathed, and she did not smell very good. For this reason, I really did not like being in the house.
My mom quit working for the nursing service after suffering from severe burnout. She needed a break from the impossible schedule of day and night shifts. While she did still had one or two patients that she took care of, she quit working for Mr. Jones.
One night, Mr. Jones' daughter called my mom. She frantically explained that her father was very sick and she couldn't get him to eat. She had quit using the nursing service, and had been taking care of her father by herself. She did not know what to do. She was desperate and was begging my mom for help. My mom told her she would be right over. Of course the jerk did not want to babysit so I went with her.
It was dark when we got there, but having an idea of what was happening, my mom told me to stay outside. Under no circumstances was I to come into the house. I don't know how long I had been outside playing with the ball I had brought when I started getting cold and a little scared. There was a strange feeling in that yard - a place that had always felt so friendly to me. Tonight I felt like something was out there watching me.
Though I remembered what my mom had told me, the cold and the fear got to me. I struggled with the choice of obeying my mom and staying outside, and going in to a nice, bright warm house. Finally I chose to go into the house.
The house wasn't warm and bright like I thought it would be. The front room was cold and dark. The only room that had any lights on was Mr. Jones' room. I called out to my mom who quickly came out into the living room.
"What are you doing in here?" she asked in a stressed out/concerned tone of voice, "I told you to stay outside!"
"I was cold, and it was dark and I got scared."
She sighed as if weighing her options. "Stay in this room and keep out of the way. There will be people coming in here soon."
I wandered over to the side of the room away from the door. There was an odd smell in the house - not at all like the way Mr. Jones' daughter smelled. This was different and scary. And there were shadows moving around in the house. Normally even when the room was lit up there were a lot of shadows made by lights coming into the windows from the garage down the street, but this was different.
There was a large shadow in the corner of the room that was like a big, black blob. It was not against any of the walls - it stood away from the walls and did not change even when the light from outside shined on it. There were voices too. One of them said, "What is a child doing here?"
Frozen in horror, I continued to stare at the shadow with one question on my mind. The answer came from another voice - "Mr. Death." Then the first voice spoke again. "Do not be afraid, child. We are not going to harm you."
Suddenly there was the sound of sirens, and the room was flooded with red, flashing lights. My mom came in to the living room and led me outside, telling me to stay in the car until she came back out.
It seemed like forever until the fire truck and the ambulance left. Then my mom came out and got into the car. "There is a reason I did not want you to go into that house. Did you smell the strange smell?"
I nodded.
"That smell was death." My mom gently explained.
"I saw his shadow." I replied quietly.
That event haunted me for many years to come, and ... uh-oh, the lights are flickering again

Hello everybody,
It looks like the library is the only building without power. I am using my laptop to post this. Unfortunately the signal is somewhat unreliable. Mary has gone to see if any of the upstairs computer labs are open in the B building. While we are waiting for her to let me know if she has found anything, let me quickly bring you up to date on the events that occurred while she was typing that last story.
Mary and I think we may have an idea of what is going on and why, but we want to make sure before we post again. The Parking Lot Prowlers have been spotted in the empty parking lots by a handful of students. I still have yet to see one tonight. All Saturday classes are still being held tonight even with the worry of Halloween pranks, but the campus is still quieter than it usually is making this a night that I wish I was anywhere else but here.
Well, that's all for now. I am still waiting for Mary. She should have let me know something by now. I will try to call her cell phone.

I found Tom, and we are sitting at a table by the admissions building. As Tom mentioned earlier, we think we know what is going on. Only problem is we don't know exactly where to go next. I thought we would find something to help us at the library, but they have closed the library for the night.
Those prowlers are everywhere now - even with a handful of classes still in session. I just wish I knew where...
Snoopy!! What is he doing here?!! I have never been so glad to see a ghost in my life - and he has brought his sweet little friend with him.
They are going toward the north building and they are acting like they want us to follow them.

Still posting using my netbook. Kind of difficult to hold this thing and type while walking. The cats have led us into the north building but we have to be quiet as there are classes in session. I think they are headed to the only stairway left leading to the lower floor of the building.
Yep, we are on the lower floor now. This place is dark and it is disaster area. I am glad Tom thought to bring a flashlight. There are broken desks, chairs, tables, and file cabinets strewn about everywhere as though they are getting ready to throw most of this stuff away.
The white cat is digging into some old folders and papers that have been piled up next to a dumpster. Not sure what she is looking for.
Oh **** I just heard something down the hall. Please don't be security or one of those prowlers!!!

One of those prowler things just broke the glass door and came in after us, but Snoopy chased it away. Never, never mess with a siamese.
The other cat has brought out a binder from the pile of papers. The mystery has been solved, but I can't tell you much until we get out of here to some place safe. Those prowlers are everywhere! We are walking toward the parking lot where my car is parked as it is closer than Tom's car.. whoa, almost dropped my netbook!
There is a security guard driving up in one of those golf cart like things they drive... oh great.. not a security guard.. one of them!!!

This is Tom using Mary's computer. We made it to Mary's car, and are on our way to a safe place with internet access. I am typing this while we drive, and hoping that the loss of signal won't mean that I will have to retype all of this.
It is time I give you all an explanation. First off, the girl whose death was deemed a suicide was one of my students. To protect her family, I will not post her name here. She was a very smart young lady who, despite making some bad choices, had a very bright future. She was only 17 years old. She had dropped out of high school a year prior to coming to the school to take classes for her GED. She had planned on entering a program to become a nurse.
My girlfriend at the time, and I befriended this girl when she was going through a very difficult time in her life. She was seeing a young man who had become very possessive over her. He was extremely jealous, and did not even want her to be around my girlfriend. Not to mention how he felt about her spending time with her beloved cat that she had rescued from a storm drain when it was so young that it still needed to be bottle fed.
Her boyfriend had been mistreating the cat - yelling at it, slapping it when it would accidentally run into something and knock it over etc... She was very upset, and wanted to break up with him, but was afraid of what he would do. Then one night, she came home and couldn't find her cat. Finally, the piece of trash confessed to killing the cat and burying it in somebody's yard down the street. That yard was Mary's yard way before Mary moved into the house.
The young lady was furious, and told the young man she never wanted to see him again. At first he only stalked her, begging her to come back to him. But things quickly escalated, and he began to threaten her.
It has always been my suspicion that she did not commit suicide - that he murdered her, but I was never able to prove anything. I believe her spirit is trapped in that library until the truth is revealed, and I am hoping that the binder we have found - her old binder that was hidden in the north building - will give us the proof we need to set things right so her spirit can go free.
We are here at the restaurant, and I will give the computer back to Mary now.

There is blood all over the binder, and there is a note that the girl wrote saying that her ex-boyfriend had threatened to kill her. Oh..my... tears are falling as I write this - there is another note saying that he had followed her to the library and she was afraid. It says she is worried he is going to do something to her. There is a picture drawn on the inside of the binder.. the sweet little cat.
Tom has called the police and we are waiting for them to get here now.
Posted 2 years ago by owlwatcher_974 #
-
The police have arrived (that was fast!! would think tonight would be a busy night for them!), Tom has explained everything and we're on our way back to the north building to show them where we found the binder.
Posted 2 years ago by owlwatcher_974 #
-
We arrived back at the north building where we were met by several more police officers who had been called to the scene. While we were down in the basement, I the little white cat came up to me, much to the dismay of Tom and the police. I reached down and picked it up and it snuggled up against me as if to say thank-you. Then it jumped down out of my arms and walked down the hallway -- and there was the ghost of the girl!! She waved at Tom and me, then the cat jumped into her arms and they disappeared together.
Now that the truth has been revealed, she is finally free.
The end.

I hope you have enjoyed this year's Ghost Cat thread as much as I have enjoyed writing it.
I will quickly go over the story and tell you which parts are true and which are made up.
The wild winds, power going out and the fire were all true. I used them to add to the story.
The sooty cat prints and the vision of the outline of the cat - made up.
The story of Job and the chalkboard? True as far as I know and written as I remember my mom telling it.
Noises in the back room? Caused by the wind.
Visits to the school and the Parking lot prowlers? Made up for the story.
The story of my mom hearing the back door unlock and open? True.
The ghost that scared my brother and sister? Based upon truth. I can't say it is completely true because I cannot remember the entire story very well.
The English teach was played by a friend of mine.
Tonight's visits to the school? Just part of the story.
The death in the library? Based upon something a friend of mine once told me. I have to call it urban legend because I have never found anything about a student dying in the old library - which was demolished, not burned down.
Newspaper article that I found, and the stuff my roommate found? part of the story.
The shadow in my mom's patient's house.... True to the best of my memory - after all, I was only nine years old when it happened.
So there you have it. Like I said, I hope you have enjoyed the story.
