  1. I would if I could! This is probably one of the worst "tricks" Mother Nature has played on us for Halloween! I would much rather have the treat of Indian Summer but it ain't happening this year! John put Lela out in the snow for a few minutes on Wednesday after he got home from work and she couldn't run fast enough to get back inside, but yesterday she wanted to explore some of the front porch - until she got hit with a flurry of snowflakes - she is curious but doesn't like to get wet.

  2. Thanks, Kilroy - he should make it at least to the neighborhood - he'll leave the van again if he needs to and walk the rest of the way. But we are supposed to have 50 degrees tomorrow so we should have a quick melt-down with the 60's mid-week. It's just going to be a slushy mess for a few days. As long as we have good sunny days, it will be good soon, and we are expecting that to happen almost every day, at least til Wednesday, after that, we'll see.

  3. I agree, don't send that snow this way! I am totally not ready and we have had so much rain lately. (Glad that isn't snow!)
What a morning I've had. Trying to do my regular job while the phone is ringing because everyone is in the office today has my head spinning.
This morning our receptionist called from the hospital and we were all on speaker with her. She sounded great! She's been up walking a bit and is in a very cheerful mood (especially about a tall, muscular male nurse), but she is certainly ready to get out of the hospital.

  4. Hello everyone! TGIF and happy early Halloween! One of my lovely co-workers came in with hot cider this morning! For realsies! It was wonderful and perfect for a rainy grey day. It is weirdly warm too.

Not sure what to do about luncha as I am leaving early today. I might do a campbells soup or might do a quick dash somewhere and get the car gassed up. Not sure at the moment. I am craving chinese but it is not convenient at the moment.

No dressing up here at my office unfortunately. :( and I am going to a ballgame so no dressing up tomorrow either...unless dressing for the weather counts!

    Have a great day everyone.

  5. Glad your receptionist is doing well, LK.

Sounds like you will be hunkered down at home for a while, KC. What a fun description of Lela's adventure with snow. :)

MC, hang in there with the apple dumpling costume. Remind your co-workers and clients that apple dumpling is a wholesome girl with curves who represents good health and rosy cheeks. What were they expecting--Elvira?? :D I guess I get to dress up every day. There is nothing feminine about a black robe. lol

MCW, I'm so sorry you are still getting beat up by the bug you've been fighting. Sending loads of white light your way for a quick recovery.

  6. LK - I am so glad for your co-worker that the rest of the office noticed the problems she was having - when my brother-in-law had his 1st stroke some 4 years ago - alone - I have learned how important it is to get immediate medical help.

  7. What a treat/cute nurse with great news on your Receptionist Ladykit!

  8. yeah, I'll be staying home, not even planning to dig my car out - we'll let the sun do the work for us, and if Richard wants me to go somewhere, he can drive me! I drive a Corsica and it does really well in the snow, but I will let all the other drivers clear the lanes for me for the first two days or so - after this much snow it also lets the idiots who don't handle it well get their accidents out of the way before I get on the road again. makes life easier that way.

  9. KC, do you ever make snow cream? I used to love when my mom made it for us.

    Posted 4 months ago by KYKAT 12 23 #

  10. For anyone who is getting some snow...or for future reference.

    Ingredients
    1 gallon snow
    1 cup white sugar
    1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    2 cups milk

    Directions
When it starts to snow, place a large, clean bowl outside to collect the flakes. When full, stir in sugar and vanilla to taste, then stir in just enough milk for the desired consistency. Serve at once.

  11. WOW...Sounds good yet I am fearful of the pollution in the air/before the flakes hit the bowl/ground! Perhaps city air vs country air=less pollution!

Posted 4 months ago by jeankit #

  12. JK, My mom would let the snow fall for a while to clear the pollution out of the air and then set the bowl out. She would always set her bowl out in a place that had already collected some snow and nestle it down in. We would mix the snow cream outside with the bowl still in the snow for maximun freeze factor on the snow cream. She would scoop it into cones or bowls and then we would take our individual portions in and eat quickly before it melted. Never scoop snow up off the ground or off a car. YUK! Always fresh fallen snow in which there has been no sleet or freezing rain. Needless to say we didn't get it often.

  13. KK - yes, I have made it when my boys were younger, seems like so long ago. Being as they are 24 and 22 now, it was so long ago!

Posted 4 months ago by KarenCentennial #

  14. Oof - I have to take a break from cooking and sit down for a couple of minutes. But where is everyone?

Posted 4 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  15. I'm here, WWM (shouldn't be, but anyway). Why does this day feel like it's already been 800 hours long?

Posted 4 months ago by Kilroy #

  16. Yeah, kind of Kilroy. But that's maybe because my alarm went off at 5 am. And I've truly been in the kitchen ever since I got home from the gym. It's fun to have company but for some reason it seems to take me all day to get ready!

  17. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention, George's "Auntie Ina", who said she couldn't take care of him during our next out-of-town jaunt, came over last night bearing a bottle of wine and totally unnecessary apologies (seriously, I *told* her it was OK and didn't do anything to make her feel bad). It looks like she's going to take care of the first 3 days or so, then Mike's nephew is staying the weekend, and our next-door neighbor is taking the last few days.

  18. It's always a little bit hard to arrange the baby sitters, isn't it?

Posted 4 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  19. No kidding; we're going away for 9 days and it's taking 3 (possibly 4) people to take care of one spoiled furball :)

Posted 4 months ago by Kilroy #

  20. Thanks for the purifying snow for snow creme treat! Changing Season:Have a great Halloween weekend to all inspite of the snow or rain or non-spookey weather wherever you keep your cat!

  21. Ok, check out ole' Apple Dumpling pix on my other thread! Try not to bust a gut laughing!
