Hello, there has been this kitty (huge Maine Coon) roaming around my place all summer and I have been feeding him, 3 weeks ago I started brining him in inside to spend the night as it was getting cold and raining. I noticed he has very liquidy stool and eating and drinking tons, so I took him to the vet and they gave me medicine to give him.
I asked them to check for a micro-chip and he had one!!! I contacted his family (took them forever to call back, I sent her a message on facebook and some of her friends cause she wasn't replying) but they don't want him back (they live quite far from my place and he is very slow walking so that made me wonder). He was on the street for almost a year she said.
So.... his belly is no ok after 3 weeks, his poop is ok now, but now he is not eating, I know he is hungry cause he jumped on the counter to steal the Temptations bag the doctor said not to give him til he gets better (I think he heard that and now that he is better...), he made a hole in it and ate a bunch (he did that twice). He just won't eat his food that he loved last week. I mixed it with some other wet stuff but only has a bite or 2 and no more.
I don't know what I can do now :( any ideas?

Sheflly, he is fickle like most cats about his food.....ok thats my thought. You are an angel for taking him in, his former care-takers need to be treated the same way someday. If you keep him (and I hope he has found a furever home with you) might want to have his micro-chip address changed to you otherwise if he gets 'lost' again no one will find his true home. Glad that his belly is getting better, mine would eat a hole in the Temptations bags too, they love those things.

If he is eating enough, not losing weight, he is probably just picky. Otherwise see the vet again. My Truffles was like that when she was new and starving from the street she ate everything - has much as she could. Now she will eat chicken breast until she can't hold any more but with the cat food she is very picky. It is sits out too long she won't touch it. But she is now at a healthy weight and holding so the vet said not to worry.

Don't let him not eat for very long--he could get fatty liver disease. He's a beauty! I can't understand why they would go through the trouble & expense of having him micro-chipped, and then not want him! Maybe they didn't like his being picky about food. Poor guy, I hope you find him a good home soon.

She said they thought he died and doesn't want to confuse her small children (ridiculous excuse if you ask me). He is also nutered.
But I have amazing news.... I am keeping him!!!!! I am sooo happy.
For some reason everyone that is allergic to cats (my boyfriend, my mom when she came to visit) have no reaction whatsoever to him :)
I am going to love him forever :D

Most strays are used to eating raw food in the form of mice. Maggie was and is now very happy eating raw :)

Sheflly, the brief explanation for the allergy issue is probably as follows.
There have been 4 proteins in cat saliva identified as potential allergens to people. Most people aren't allergic to any of the proteins. Some people with cat allergies are allergic to only 1 or 2 of the proteins; others are allergic to all 4 proteins.
Not all cats produce all 4 proteins in their saliva. There is even a small handful of cats that don't seem to produce any of the 4 proteins in their saliva.
So, if everyone you know is allergic to only 1 or 2 of the proteins, and your newly found cat doesn't produce those proteins in his saliva, they're not allergic to him. Which is great news!
(In addition, if an allergic reaction develops in the future, bathing the cat with warm water, every other week. usually will control the allergen's presence on the fur sufficiently.)
Congrats that you're keeping him; he looks like quite the character!
