  1. Hi Everyone - Sorry I haven't been around much these past few months.

    It has been a really crazy time for me. First there was spending a month in San Diego helping my mom move out of her apartment. Then there was flying back and forth between San Francisco and the UK while my husband was in Calif on a training visa. And now he is applying for a green card, which means we are moving to the SF area. So my last couple of months have been dealing with getting our house in the UK cleared out so that tenants can move in, getting all our stuff either packed up for the big move to SF, put into storage, sold, given away, recycled or tossed! Ack!

    But it is all done now, and I am in Calif. for good now. Whew!!! I am working out of my company's office over here and am hoping (praying) that my transfer back to the States comes through! :-O

    But we are really settling in now, and are actually in the process of buying a house here. If it all goes well, we should be able to move in at the beginning of December. I CAN'T WAIT!!! In the meantime, we are staying in a hotel in a room that is like a little tiny one-bedroom apartment. That is getting really old, really quickly!

    One sad thing is that we decided it would be best for Tikka if she stayed in the UK with our friend who takes care of her when we are on holiday. Tikka loves her as much as us, plus she gets fresh chicken and prawns, so we know she will be fine. She would be very frustrated here (after that awful long plane ride), because we would not be letting her out of the house. At least back in the UK she will be able to continue the life to which she has become accustomed.

    Anyway - I'm looking forward to having another SF area TDK get together one of these days! Yay!

    Happy Halloween, everybody!

  2. Rubia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Wow, what an adventure you have had these last few months. I am sorry you had to leave Tikka, but glad she is with someone you trust and who loves her and will care for her. Glad you are back with us :) We have missed you and welcome back to the states. ((Hugs)))

  3. Welcome back to the US Rubia! I am glad you are finally able to get settled. I am sure it is great for you to settle into a routine so you can enjoy time with your family. Tikka will miss you, but she would miss the life she had as well. Maybe she has the best of both worlds--you and all your love and now the love of a family that will keep her routine somewhat normal.

  4. Rubia!!! Welcome back! We have surely missed you. But I'm so glad you have such good things happening in your life. Well, maybe not leaving your precious Tikka, but I'm sure she will be happy not having to be crated and quarantined and all that bad stuff! When you get moved into your new hours, perhaps you will want the patter of little feet again??

    Anyway,so glad to have you back, my friend!

  5. Rubia...... Welcome to the "left" coast!! It is disheartening to leave Tikka behind, but it sounds like it is the best for her, and she is surrounded with a caring family, and will be loved and nurtured. When the time is right, you will welcome another kitty to share your life with. And how nice to only be a few hours away from your mom. All the best with your new "beginnings".

  7. Rubia, welcome back to the US!!! But I am so sorry about Tikka and I know how much you will miss her. Perhaps, once you are in your home, you could adopt a little American kitty?

  9. Welcome back Rubia!!! Also sorry that Tikka stayed behind but having a second Mum and family is a good thing too, and like you said she will enjoy her life as it is. Would say now you can relax, but not yet you have another upcoming move. At least your Mum is moved and finally settled. So are you going to share your addy for the xmas list too (by email of course)? {{{hugs}}}

  10. Welcome back Rubia, I was wondering where you had disappeared to. You have been busy with your travelling and various movings. I'm sure Tikka will be well looked after by her "other mother". Maybe you will get to see her by video occasionally.

  11. Or Skype! It is hard when elderly parents are living overseas, I am sure it feels good to be closer to your mum and San Francisco is a place I'd love to live! Americans tell me it is a lot like Wellington only HEAPS bigger. Welcome back!

  13. Welcome back, Rubia! It sounds like you made the best choice for Tikka, although it must have been very hard. I second (third?) the hopes that eventually you'll decide to give a home to another kitty.

  17. Good to see you again Rubia (and thank you for my get well ecard!) I know you agonised over the Tikka decision, but think you've done the best thing. And I'm sure the Rubia household won't be a furless one for very long... :o)

  18. Wow Rubia..How exciting for you and Hubby! Alot of work and adjustment no doubt but I have a feeling the both of you are up for it nicely. It truly breaks my heart to hear that Tikka won't be joining you though. Whaaaaa!! I know she'll will be fine with her caregiver in the UK...but...it must be very hard for you to leave her. =( Welcome to your new home Rubia!!!
