Shy kitten

(5 posts)
  1. Brought home a new 8 week old kitten about 2 weeks ago. She road home up under my daughters truck and we found her in the garage. Finally caught her at 2a.m. She is a little wild. She stays in the spare bedroom. She won't come out for anyone except me. She completely trusts me, is not afraid of my other kitties. But she is afraid of everyone else in the house. My son was able to pet her once (animals love him!)She just won't warm up to anyone else.I can't let her run free in the house yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Hi Peace! Welcome to TDK! My only suggestion is quiet, caution and patience! Great emphasis on PATIENCE. Your kitten is frightened and uncertain. Give her time...she'll surely warm up to you. Try to kneel to a less frightening height when approaching and petting the little one. Our sizes (even kids) can be very frightening to a kitty that has only been on earth a short time. Make her as comfy as possible in an out of the way spot so she's not constantly spooked by alot of loud activities and try to encourage a little playfulness by sitting nearby with some kitty toys...we use bell balls. They're inexpensive and cats love them. Keep us posted on how your little one is doing. We'd love to see a pic!! If you click on my avatar pic you'll see my 4 who all came from the same litter. =)

  3. Hi Karenopa, & thank you. Your 4 are adorable! How fun to have had 4 kittens at once! Two kittens at once is the most I have had. My kitten, Hana, is real affectionate and playful with me. I have 3 other kitties that come into Hana's room to see her. Only one is friendly to her. km=,m\]. <- that was Hana walking across the keyboard. LOL! Other 2 kitties do not want anything to do with her yet.My biggest problem is Hana being afraid of all other people except me, so I am spending a lot of time in here these days. I told the rest of my family to just come in & sit on the floor and talk to her. She is a LITTLE better after 2 weeks. Like you said though,it will take time and PATIENCE!

  4. The rest of your family may be able to make friends with her if they take turns feeding her and/or just sit in one place in her room and read aloud to her.

  5. Oh, that sounds like a good idea, thanks. She loves the sound of her little bag of kitten chow being opened!
