  1. I just got an email from whoever it is, sent to everyone on TDK (from Kittenmaster on down). Is this someone we know? Is it safe to open, or is it spam?

  2. I've got the same email, and I couldn't remember, though I thought I should know! As there wasn't any other text besides the link though, I didn't take the chance, and deleted it.

  6. Hmm. . .opened it, clicked on the link, AVG blocked it b/c it said there were viruses. I wonder if Teresa's email has been hacked.

  7. Hi everyone! Thanks Bellantara for asking TDKers and thanks AZDebra for letting everyone know its me.

YES I have been hacked. I'll have to change my email address. Please do not open any email from 'gingerknits'.

I'm not sure what I need to do. The computer place is closed on the weekends so it will be Monday before I can do anything with the my computer.

I probably won't be on the rest of today but I'll check in tomorrow morning.

    Sorry for all the trouble.

  11. I just got home and got the e-mail, too, but I didn't open it because I suspected something. Then I got on here and find out it was a good thing I didn't!

  12. I wondered too and then opened it but my virus protection caught it.

  16. Teresa,
Unless the email program is on your computer, then the problem is not with your computer. If you are using a web-based email address (yahoo.com is usually web based that is why I say this) the it looks like someone got into your account as it is being sent to your email list.

If your email program is on your computer (you don't have to go to a web page to access it) then all you need to do is run an a scan with a spy ware program then with an anti-virus program. The reason I say to use scan with a spy ware program first, is that some spy ware can actually prevent an anti-virus program from working.

If you are using Windows and don't have an anti-virus program, you can go here to get a good, free anti-virus program:

    http://www.avira.com/en/download/index.html

Taking care of this yourself will save you a lot of money and you won't have to leave your computer in a repair shop.

  17. Yahoo was running slow this morning and I didn't get anything but a black page. I knew gingerknits was TDK so I let it be to check later. So glad I came here first!

  18. Teresa,I started to mention this last night about other options that you might try, Microsoft has some free versions of programs that you can install including Windows Defender and Windows Malicious Software Remover Tool and an online scanner called Windows Live OneCare Safty scanner that you run online .
Keep in mind that most people warn against haveing more than 1 anti-virus program installed[2 will interfer with each other] but you can have 2 or more anti-spyware or anti-malware programs usualy without problems. I prefer to have them installed without being active so you can bring them up and ran them when you are away from your computer doing house work or something.
Here are some links to other programs that you might check out that I have tried .
    microsoft site

    http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm?s_cid=sah/?s_cid=sah

    superantispyware

    http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

    malwarebytes

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/

These programs allow you to quarantine items because sometimes you get a false positive reading on some programs like Wild Tangent game drivers or other similer pragrams that connect to a home page when you close out a program.
I will try to answer any question you might have if you need to.

  19. Oh you littermates are fabulous! Glad you come here first for the latest updates. Thanks Feral for making me teary.

I changed the password on the 'gingerknits' email addy and I deleted my contact list after I printed it out.

I'm stunned that this has happened to me. I really really careful about opening questionable email and clicking on questionable links. One just never knows...

I do have a spyware/antivirus program installed on my computer. It scans the computer every day. Lot of good that did! Grrrr!

Thanks Mary & Ron for your advice. I didn't know about the anti-malware. I'll look at the sites you've listed and get them downloaded.

Lesson learned...don't have super easy passwords. Use alpha charaters, numbers, some symbols and misspelled words.

Again you guys are the best!
