  1. Well, you know our sweet kitty here named Spaz? Truly, that should be my name. Mr. WWM, a good friend and I went for a bike ride this morning. It was 39 degrees when we started and Mr. WWM said maybe we should go home and drink hot chocolate. But noooooooo - my friend and I kept on going. Everything was fine till we made the turn and headed home. We had a tailwind and so I took off and Mr. WWM stayed with our friend who doesn't ride as fast. Eventually I looked in my rear view mirror and I didn't see them. So I decided to make a U turn and go back to find them. Only (I'm not stellar at turns), I made the turn too wide, ended up in loose rock off of the road and of course went down. I knew that it kind of hurt and felt like a bad scrape. They caught up with me and I took off again. Then I looked down and my whole left knee was covered in blood. When we got home, I mixed up some pancake batter and then left Mr. WWM to make the pancakes while I went and took a look at my knee. Oh, Gosh I thought - this is bad. I had a one inch flap of skin totally torn off but I thought that maybe I could press it down and it would be okay. When our friend left Mr. WWM took a look at it and said we going to the ER. The nice thing is we had a really kind doctor. The bad part is I now have eight stitches in my left knee. The worst part is that I can't ride my bike, or even use the cardio at the gym, for at least a week because the sutures are right on the joint where any repetitive motion could rip them out. The worser part is - what the heck is this going to cost?

    I am such an idiot........

  2. You are a road warrior now, WWM. First blood! I'm glad you didn't have a worse injury. You will be back in the saddle in no time. :)

  3. Ouchy!

Reminds me of the time I came off my bike as a kid in the village where we lived at the time - tore a chunk out of my knee, got picked up by nice lady who rang my parents and bathed my knee in neat TCP...I learned how to swear that day!!

  4. *sniff* Not exactly first blood, KW. When I was first learning to use clipless pedals I fell several times. Once I scraped my left knee so badly that I got an infection that spread down my leg and I was forced to go to the doctor. But to be told that I can't ride or work out for at least seven days? That's not even an option for me! I just can't do that!!!

The doctor in the ER told me that my days as a knee model are over. Good thing I have other skills!

  5. Ow, WWM, that must have hurt. {{{WWM}}} Like KW, I'm glad it was no worse.

If I were you, I would be glad of the chance to put my feet up. Perhaps you could concentrate on upper body strength for a week? Picking up and putting down martini glasses?

  6. Oh my goodness you have been in the wars!!! (as my Mum used to say when I fell off my bike when I was a child!!)
I expect the worst part will be taking it easy for a week or so for you! BIG hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  7. LOL, Jcat!!! Okay, I've already done one set of rep's with the martini glass. It sure bets the Lortabs that the doctor gave me an Rx for pain. I didn't even get that one filled.

I wonder exactly how many martini reps I should do???

  8. Taking it easy will be the worst part! That's not exactly in my vocabulary. *whine*

Posted 4 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  9. Here, have some swine flu germs. You have no choice but to take it easy with these!! (I cannot believe I've been in bed six days!!!)

Posted 4 months ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  10. Poor MCW!!! But just think of those four pounds!

Posted 4 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  11. Yeah, but they'll come straight back on won't they? And I'm getting BORED! Usually if I'm not well I can read, but my eyes simply will not put up with that. This is the longest online time I've had, and I'm beginning to feel the strain, both from the reading and the bright screen. This ain't fun!

  12. Oh My!! Had a Tailwind? You're so funny WWM....Blame it on the tailwind!!! I'm sorry...I won't chuckle *much* cause I know it has to hurt alot but next time could you let them catch up to you instead of turning around and going back? It might be safer. Keep up those Martini lifts and you won't be feeling any pain at all. =)

  13. *sniff* I should have just ridden slower. That's what I get for taking off and leaving my friend......

Posted 4 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  14. Walk it off, walk it off!! (((WWM))) Be thee careful.

Posted 4 months ago by HuddysMama #

  15. Even walking is hard because I have a huge bandage on my knee and I'm not supposed to bend it. *serious whining*

Posted 4 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  16. Perhaps Mr. WWM could install a bar in one of your doorways. You could do chinups! ;)

Posted 4 months ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  17. LOL, KW - he did that ages ago!!! No kidding - yep, he's an incurable romantic!

I'm taking my ouchy knee off to bed, I think. It really is stinging.

Posted 4 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  18. Oh dear, WWM, that sounds so painful. I have to admit, though, your post made me laugh.

I read this part "... my whole left knee was covered in blood. When we got home, I mixed up some pancake batter ....." and I immediately thought "I never heard of putting pancake batter on a cut. I wonder how that helps?"

I was much relieved when I kept reading and discovered the batter wasn't a poultice for your knee.

  19. LOL at CBM, our minds work the same way (pancake batter? huh?).

Oh, WWM, I'm so sorry. Owwweeee. I bet you're about as good at being inactive as Mr. K is (which is to say, really bad). Please take care of yourself, though, and let yourself heal.

    {{{WWM}}}

Posted 4 months ago by Kilroy #

  20. Thought the same thing myself CBM and Kilroy! Was thinking 'wow, here's a new cure, could be useful!'. WWM, I'm not envying you the slow manoeuvring into the bath, leg sticking up and over the edge over the next week or two.....

Posted 4 months ago by eleniki #

  21. LOL@ Eliniki...Mr.WWM might get a kick out of the bath manuevering (shame on me!).
WWM...sorry to hear of your recent 'boo-boo'. Sending lots of Healing energy to you.

Posted 4 months ago by feral #

  22. LOL, CBM - yeah, that was poor writing! Maybe I should have put blood in the pancake batter. After all, it was Halloween!

I took the dressing off this morning. It looks nasty. The doctor was right, I think. My days as a knee model are over :-(

Posted 4 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  23. OH NO! I think the worst part will be not being able to do your rigorous workouts!! I, too, thought you had a new rememdy with that pancake batter! :))

Posted 4 months ago by katthays #

  24. I'm thinking that I might make an infommercial about the benefits of applying pancake batter to scrapes and lacertions!

Posted 4 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  25. I thought the same thing! I also expected this thread to be an ICHC kitty with some kind of boo-boo. ;) Poor WWM---I say just throw that D$@N bike out and stick to the workout with the dirty martinis. Those olives are good for you, aren't they? :)

Posted 4 months ago by FondaHonda #

  26. Yes, olives are vegetables and therefore on the food pyramid. But I can't get rid of the bike because I'm addicted to riding already!

Posted 4 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  27. WWM - park your bike in one of those stationary frames and push the pedals around with your hands. You get the upper body workout and the 'riding' at the same time. Hope you heal soon!

Posted 4 months ago by KapitiKats in NZ #

  28. You could have Mr. WWM take the pedal off your bike on the injured side and pedal with one foot. MMmmmmmmmm maybe not!

Posted 4 months ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  29. Hmmmm, actually I had not thought of that, KW!

KK, I can still go to the gym and do upper body weights. It's just the cardio that I can't do - unless I do it with one leg!

Posted 4 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  30. WWM, girl racer - speed demon!
Oh your poor knee and your poor dented pride. I did the same thing when I was about 10 years old and Mum was teaching my some boy scouts first aid. She used me to show them how to clean and bandage a wound. Probably should have had stitches but it healed well with a cute crescent scar on the knee.
Take care of that knee and get that upper body workout with the martini glass.
