  1. should a cat be kept quite? Maggie just got done today and is really wanting to get out of her cage...I think though that the way they spay ferals is differant than typical house cats. The stitches are on the inside so there is nothing that can be torn out - the typical way of doing feral cats.

BTW Maggie is not feral but got done at NOAH. They do lots of feral/barn cats and are who did all mine. Feral/barn cats are free and a typical spay for a housecat is $30 for females but they have a two for one deal right now. She wasn't supposed to get done yet but the shelter had one more spot left so they could get all the females done for half price; they take cats down to NOAH about once a week.

Like I said...someone really really wants to go tear up something. Its not a small cage - its an indoor crate meant for large dogs so is fine to stay in though she really doesn't want too.

  2. My recollection is to keep them quiet for 24 to 48 hours, but my girls were raring to go much sooner. I don't know how you keep a cat from running and jumping unless you keep them in a cage. Good luck with Maggie. You have done so much for your cats. My hat is off to you. :D

  3. I did the same w/Prettygirl when she was spayed. I kept her in a lg. dog crate. It was big enuf for bed, food & water & litterbox. And she was still able to stretch her legs. I kept her in the puter room where I spent alot of time in back in those days,so I could softly talk to her. She'd never been inside before being trapped & spayed. She was special to me so I kept her in for a week, all along slowly letting her out so I could spend 1-on-1 time w/her. She was fine. She turned out to be a very warm & loving outside feral. I always wished & still do that I could find a forever home for her. She was meant to be inside as sweet & loving as she is.
Most cats don't like being cooped up but, sometimes it's for the best. I agree w/KW. I would keep her in at least 1-3 days because of the jumping around not being good for them.

  4. i made a staircase out of books so Velvet could walk up it onto my bed and not have to jump.

Spice was ready and raring to run less than 24 hours after her spay. i kept her upstairs because it was halloween night and i didn't want her to get out...

  5. Tequila was out in the garden, jumping and playing within 1/2 hour of getting home when she was done. I believe kitties know what's good for them - if they are still sore and grumpy from the anaesthetic, they won't want to do all those things any way. After she played and jumped and dug a hole to potty (she hates using the inside litter boxes) she laid down on my bed and slept for a good 24+ hours, and was right as rain again after that.

  6. Leela was wild, despite being on drugs that they told me she would be sleepy for the evening. I atribute her craziness partially to her natural spunky purrsonality, but mostly to her instant immediate dislike of the dreaded e-collar!
