Vegemite Contest Draws Protests

(13 posts)
  1. LOL, my body was screaming out for a vegemite sandwich this evening and yes I indulged myself. There is one school of thought that a ridiculous name was purposely chosen to create the furore that happened, just for promotional purposes. If that was so then they certainly got what they wanted. Vegemite was on everybody's lips and not in the usual way either. Of course the new more sensible name was chosen and it all quietened down. Great way to advertise Kraft.

  7. Our friends in England eat it on toast. I'm not sure which is worse - vegemite or poi!

  11. Vegemite or Marmite, it's divine but you really have to grow up eating it. I spread it thinly on toast or sandwiches. It's wonderful with walnuts or lettuce and tomato. Some people use it to help flavour stews. It is very strong tasting so you only need a smidgen. When Meegz was studying in Delaware she took and huge jar of it with her and some of the other students there tried it but they spread it on thickly and of course hated it. Another student had spent time in NZ and loved it so I sent over more jars of it. Unfortunately now it only comes in glass jars which makes it very heavy for posting otherwise I would send some of you some.

    I honestly can't describe it's taste.

  12. I still have a jar in my fridge from my visit to Australia. The best way that I can describe the taste is "salty beer in a spreadable paste." I bet it would taste good with lettuce and tomato, MS.
