  1. Who are they to tell me what I can do in my house if I keep them indoors?

  2. It sounds like she didn't keep them indoors, SM. If she would have, this probably wouldn't have happened.

  3. I totally agree w/one of the commentors. When she leaves & the town becomes overrun by breeding ferals(& they will be) they will have brought it all on themselves...with the poor cats being the victims again. I can just picture these vigilante animal haters taking shotguns to the street looking for furry targets.
What a slap to this woman's face. These cats were not hers at one time. They were the result of some other careless, irresponsible person living in that very town dumping or abandoning the animals.
    Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!

  4. Hmmm, I believe in my area you must get a Cat Fancier License if you have more than 4 cats. You are not supposed to put food outside for ferals either. I guess my neighborhood wasn't notifyed!!!

  5. Then the good rescue groups, like Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue, would have trouble finding fosters. This woman TNR'd and actively looked for new homes for the cats. I agree she should have kept them off the neighbor's property.

  6. But some of them were a result of TNR. Not all those that are caught & neutered or spayed can be kept inside. Hopper is one of my rare surprises. But my Ms. Hissy is a perfect example of 'can't tame the wild' but you can stop the litters. This woman is being scorned for trying to lower their own town's population problem. That's just not right.
That's exactly how & why I ended up w/the animals I have. I stopped the kitten mill & yet here I am w/13 kits I can't even afford to care for cuz someone else didn't care enuf to do the right thing. This woman should be commended.

    Okay...I'm off my soapbox.

  7. Many new suburbs in NZ come with a limit on the number of cats per household, mainly as protection for local native wildlife. Remembering of course that as we don't have any predators here 99% of cats are indoor/outdoor. They also have a limit on the number of dogs per household but that's mainly through the local city councils.

  8. I agree she is doing an admirable job of fostering cats, being involved with TNR and the rescue groups. She could have had an enclosure built to keep the cats off of the neighbors properties. Or even invested in the fence toppers that are supposed to prevent anything getting out or in her own backyard. She also could have paid the $50 license fee rather than the $100 a day fine imposed by the town.

I have six cats, none are allowed outside because its not safe for them (predaters, cars, stupid mean people, etc.) and I do wish that I could afford a cat enclosure built outside myself.

  9. In many cities and suburbs around here, there are limits to the number of cats and/or dogs that a household can have. A person can get a breeders' license to have more animals. The state of Iowa is mainly concerned with people who are running puppy mills and the limit of animals allows watching those who have over the limit to face extra charges for "too many animals that are free to breed and run loose."
