The limited protection is why I have refused to have one so far. I would much rather use checks than a debit card because you have so few protections on them

If it's a Visa or MasterCard logo debit card, if you use it as a credit card (sign instead of a pin) you get the same protection as a regular credit card. If it's just a bank check card you lose.

I want to get a preloaded credit card for purchases that I can't use checks for. I can control how much is on it and if I lose it or the number is stolen I only lose what I have on it unlike a debit card that could clean out my whole bank account.
