Why does he step in his own dirty business?

  1. My neutered cat, who is about 6 months old (almost 7) has a bad habit of occasionally stepping in his poop. Of course, then I have to chase him around the house, scoop him up and then give him a foot bath (which he detests). I am so sick of always checking to see if his hind legs are clean, and having to clean my house all over again! I scoop EVERY TIME he goes, ASAP, and he has a big litterbox (clevercat top entry). It is not runny or anything, just firm, but not hard as a rock.

Is the litter not deep enough? What can I do? HELP!

  2. Welcome to TDK, not all cats cover their leavings in their litter boxes. And some step in them too, just like humans and all other living beings, they are individuals and all are different. He might grow out of it and be a bit cleaner about leaving the litter box, always a chance of that. He might be jumping out of the top entry also too fast, have you ever tried any other kind of litter box?
