New tooth coming, old tooth not coming out

(3 posts)
  1. I was playing with Finn yesterday and noticed he kept licking his lips, like he had something stuck on his tooth. He then started using his paw to rub against his jaw, so I tried to take a look. He was pretty defensive about the area, but I finally got a look and saw some redness, as well as what appeared to be a new tooth. His old tooth was still there, but seemed like it was damaged. I thought it would just work itself out, like mine did when I was a child, but after a day and night of eating dry food and chewing on toys, it's still there.

Will it just come out eventually, or might it cause a problem?

Thanks, as always we'd be lost with out y'all.

  2. Bound to come out - here's betting you find a little old tooth on the carpet! If it's still looking set to stay over the next few days, and he seems to mind, like he's not eating, then you should consider removing it yourself with a firm finger or two, if it's loose enough, or taking him to see the vet.

  3. I call that the sharky-stage - when they have a double row of teeth going on . . . I usually just give my babies some biltong to chew on, it helps with the itching gums . Biltong is dried meat, very tough and salty. Works well for teething human babies as well :)
