  3. NC, did you ever get that beignet I fixed you yesterday?

  4. Yes, the beignet was yummy! Thanks! I am ok, tired, running around like a chicken with my head cut off! Trying to get ready for surgery!

  5. Yes, Vicki, I did, and thru the magic of the wormhole it was still nice and warm! MMMMMMMmmmmm! Thanks!
MC, I thought the point was to keep your head attached! teehee...

  6. Ooh, MC, I think you may have gotten NC's beignet by accident: I set one off to the side for the N'Awlins CatMom and one for you. I guess I can just fry up a second batch and set them out.

  7. Vicki- no worries... since Cafe du Monde beignets come in a group of three there iss plenty to share - I can't finish them all (well, I can, but I try NOT to....)

  8. I love cafe du monde's beignets! I could eat three, I shouldn't but I could. Oh pray for me, my crazy sister is coming and she said she is coming with bleach and she is cleaning my house top to tip. She does NOT want me to get an infection in my head after surgery. I will be crying before she leaves. Guaranteed.

  9. Oh, NC--you have brought back a wonderful memory with your mention of Cafe du Monde and their heavely beignets!! Several years ago my sister had invited me to attend a seminar she had to attend in New Orleans--she's from Virginia, I'm from Michigan. We met in New Orleans and had such a marvelous time, and one of the high points was the morning we went to Cafe du Monde and ate beignets. What an absolutely decadent delight they were!!

  10. They are, indeed... and the fact that CdM is open 24/7 means you can get your fix anytime you want... I love living in New Orleans!
You need to come back and do a quality check, MCM! As former midwesterner, I recommend February, when winter is wearing on you, and it is in the 60s and 70s here - warm enuf for azaleas to bloom! And Mardi Gras is the 16th of Feb this year - a little earlier than usual, but... fun anytime!

  11. I really did love "Nawlins"--my mom was born there, but none of my family had ever been there until my sister and I visited. She had to attend meetings, etc., but I headed out on my own, took the trolley through the Garden District, went to the Casino (shouldn't have done that!). Our last evening there, we went to dinner on the big paddlewheeler (don't remember the name). I'd love to come back for a visit someday.

  12. Do I see a Calico in your avatar? I had a beautiful calico named Kirby for 17 years--she was my best bud in the world. Then I got two tabbies, Max and sister Molly,(who left us in January this year). Cali came to live with us in March--she's mostly white, with calico markings only on her head and tail, and two "cow spots" on either side-hard to tell from my avatar.

  13. Hi, all

I wanted to ask if anyone has had to adjust their usual pet care budget in these rocky economic times? We have been lucky enough not to have to worry about that but I do know people who have put off vet visits, changed their cats' food (and, as you all know, cat can be very picky about what food they eat), etc. One is talking of giving up her cat - and we'll probably take it because it breaks my heart to think of it going to a shelter (so many routinely euthenize them now).

Anyone else going through this? Know of someone who is? Have any money saving tips or know a list of vets who offer reduced prices or care on a sliding scale? I want to help my friend.

  14. Yes, the calico in the back is Puzzles, who is almost 9. Her brother Butterscotch (orange and white) has gone to the Bridge. Luke (creamsicle) and Leia (gray and white tabby) were Katrina kittens, found on a pile of debris in Oct 05. Hester is not in pic, need to get a new family shot one of these days, but they are all rarely in one space all at the same time...
I love riding the trolley, sometimes use it to go home from work... I live "Uptown" near Tulane University... and work in an office bldg on Canal. Too close to CdM for my weightloss program if I am not careful!
You should come back sometime... would love to meet you! The paddlewheeler is the Natchez, that is a lot of fun - my daughters school had the Winter Formal dance on it one year!
