Hi guys! Smoe of you may recall that Tequila was spayed about 2 weeks ago. She's healing just fine, the vet is happy with her progress. My concern is that her behaviour seems to be changing rapidly. I've had about 50 feral cats spayed, and they always calm down and become (somewhat) more affectionate a few months after the operation. I know it's early days still, but Tequila is becoming more and more anti-social and skittish by the day. She came from a feral colony, but I've had her since she was two weeks old, so she's not 'feral' in the true sense of the word, she's just a bit wild and temperamental from time to time. She used to love me - she would follow me around everywhere, sit on my lap any chance she gets, purr from sunrise to sunset, she loved getting attention. Now she hides away and runs when I try to pet her. I'm at a total loss here. Does anyone have similar experiences to share? Or any advice?

Behaviour change after spay?

She's ticked off at you for taking her to the vet. Is the vet sure she's not in any pain? That would be my guess. If she is truly OK just give her treats and extra love, she'll come around.

She was ok with me the first week after her spa treatment; she's still running and playing and climbing trees all day, so I doubt tht she's still in pain. Maybe it's just a case of 'once a feral, always a feral'. She's definitely behaving more and more like a wild cat every day, maybe the call of the wild is stronger . . . :(

It may just be that the trip to the vet has upset her a bit and she'll calm down in another week or so. Processing anesthesia through the system (cats and people both) can do some funny things. I remember my father use to be fine the first week and then go into a depression for the next month that the doctors said was much like postpartum depression. It would literally be four weeks before he felt like himself again.
