I don't believe that the death penalty deters people from committing crimes, but he shot a child; that alone needs to be punishable by death.

  2. I actually support the death penalty, but I agree with you I don't believe it will deter anyone from killing. Maybe it is my vengeful spirit. I do however feel bad a person was killed--although person is a very kind word for that monster. He not only killed, dragged a kid into the mess with him, and then terrorized all the people on the road in DC. May he pay for all his crimes for all eternity.

  3. I have quite mixed feelings death penalty. Not really for or against, but not really upset that this one is over with. I lived in DC during that time, and it was pretty crazy. Interesting that he got the death penalty and all the news and the kid who pulled the trigger quietly sits in prison for life. So little news focuses on him.

  4. Good Riddens! We don't need another heartless killer sitting behind bars for an already economically challenged nation of people to feed and clothe for the rest of his sorry life.

  5. If he was a cold blooded killer he deserved his punishment. If he was that traumatised by his war experience, then he's been put out of his misery.

  6. He and his little buddy showed so little remorse. Their biggest regret was getting caught.

I don't think everyone can be rehabilitated. I do wish they could be put away for life and given a chance. But that is not always feasible.

As for the families of the victims, I wish them peace. That's something very few of us ever have to go through, and my complete sympathy is with them.

  7. I too feel death is the correct option for one who kills, especially a child. I have mixed feelings in the case of domestic violence when it is in self defense. I was in a bad situation once and can see how if you were around that constantly you might break and kill your spouse/significant other. But as the rule goes: "Thou shalt not kill". I am glad they did it!

  8. I used to be hard core for capital punishment. Then Maryland had it's first execution in decades (years ago) and I felt sad. I don't believe anyone has the right to take another's life, even the government. Then I got back on the bandwagon. I do vacillate sometimes. I know, for sure, that treason should be automatic death. A person or persons who commits treason, sells secrets, etc., not only took an oath to protect and defend this county (faults and all) but they potentially threaten the lives of thousands to millions of people. Get a fair trial, yes, but if guilty: hang. As for the other crimes, well, it's not called the CRIMINAL justice system for nothing. We need to get back to taking care of the victims and not worrying about the rights of felons. Okay... quietly stepping off the soapbox now...
