  1. Happy Veteran's Day to one and all! Let's not forget who this day is about, our brave men and women of the military. God Bless them all! Kitties are all dressed in their finest red, white and blue. The cafe is set up and decorated in red, white and blue. There are yummies on the buffet today from Cracker Barrel as well as homemade cupcakes decorated in red, white and blue icing and sprinkles (made by those crazy Meezers!). Come join us and share your military stories or words of thanks. Also, if you know someone in the military or who is a vet, Applebee's is offering a free meal to them today!

Me, I am the daughter of an Army medical researcher. Worked in the top secret labs and went to his grave NEVER EVER telling us what he did. He was in six years and proud of it. I know my family goes all the way back to the civil war in the army and I am proud of it! I want to thank all those who have served, who are serving and who will one day serve this country. You are true heros in my book!

  3. Happy Veteran's Day! My father fought in WWII and my brother in Vietnam..so thank you to our soldiers everywhere.

I had a full nights sleep last night. NO sound from either girls. Which is huge since Abbie wakes up a lot during the night. Whee!! I feel good.
Having some coffee and catching up on things right now while it's still quiet..

  4. Morning MC and CM! YAY for sleeping through the night! (applause)

My dad served in WWII, right at the end. He repaired radios on the East Coast. Intercepted a German submarine message once too.

One of my favorite photos of him is in his military uniform. He was fresh out of high school.

  6. Hello, all! A salute to all those who have and who are serving our great country. I had a couple of uncles who served in World War II. Both of them would not talk about their experiences and one did not even like hearing the songs that were sang so much for the war effort.

  7. Good Vetran's Day Morning! I had two great-uncles (cousins) who were killed in Normandy in WW 1. They have a legion post in NYS named after them, The Smith-Warren Post in Scottsville NY. God Bless America and all the servicemen and people.

  9. Hi everyone! Battling the blues a bit today; I'm sure that little tabby with the red white and blue tail-ring will come over and snuggle and everything will be ok!
Thank you, veterans. I'm wearing my flag pin, my Hershey's Kiss necklace and my peace earrings.

  10. My Grandfather was shot on a beach--Normandy. My maternal Grandfather was shot on a Pacific Island. My Father-In-Law served on the USS New Jersey after transfer orders from USS Indianapolis during WWII. He served in Korea and Vietnam. My husband was in the Gulf War and served multiple tours to Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. For all the beautiful friends and family that we have lost that served this country to uphold our freedoms I say thank you. For all those serving now and in the future YOU will always have my unending gratitude for protecting our country and ensuring our continued freedoms that most of us take for granted. May we all have a blessed day knowing our freedoms are in fine and capable hands.

  13. Hi everyone...girls got up and so did Wayne(he's off today) so it was breakfast time and all that fun morning stuff. Wayne is going to the library to study for his test next week so it's just a normal day for me.
Abbie did get sick all over my shoulder and in my hair after breakfast so I had to have an emergency shower and a bath for her. She seems okay but I just hope she ate too many pancakes and is not getting the flu. If you can, say a small prayer that she is not getting sick. Thank you all.

  15. Good Morning Family & Happy Veteran's Day to all our Military peoples past, present & future. My Dad served in WWII. He was another that spoke as little as possible about it. He almost lost a leg stepping on a land mine. May he RIP as we observe this honorable day!

  16. My DNA father fought in Vietnam, one of my late uncles fought in World War II, as did my late pseudofather-in-law; PH was in the Army in the early '80s, and Stepson #3 fought in Iraq; can you see why I'm a pacifist? What I don't get when watching World War II documentaries is: why did so many teen boys sacrifice their educations to fight in war? Didn't they realize that once they came home from war they would not have the skill set needed to succeed in society? You didn't have so many teen boys enlisting at age 15, 16, and 17 (and lying about their ages) during the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, or Iraqi Freedom. Didn't the military do background checks on these boys enlisting?

  17. That is why the GI Bill was established in 1944. It gave veterans the opportunity to complete or advance their education (including GEDs) and provide living expenses while they did so. It is estimated that over 75% of WWII Veterans used the service by the time it expired in 1955.
I think there were more underage enlistees in WWII because the culture was so different then - at 18, you were considered a full adult, unlike today. There was also a clearly defined set of "bad guys" that didn't exist during Korea, Vietnam or any of the military actions afterward.
I'm just happy that the boyfriend is here with me this year. Last year he was in Afghanistan.

  18. Good day all. Happy Veteran's Day. My Dad was a Navy man... and a very proud one, even though his stint was short. My brother was in the Army for 25+ years, and is currently working as a civilian in Afghanistan. I pray he is OK... not very communicative! And to all TDKers and their families, and all others in every branch of the military.... thank you for all you have done and continue to do.

Now, where is one of those cuddle kitties? I need a good snuggle. And a donut :)

  19. Morning everyone! Thanks to all who have served and are serving un the US armed forces.

I could go for some red, white and blue cupcakes and a big glass of milk! In reality, pass the cough medicine!

  21. I learned something from Mum just the other day - her father (my Grandad) was in WW1 with all his 6 - yes, 6 - brothers. They all saw active service and all returned, which considering the statistics is nothing short of a miracle.

  22. WOW MCW, that is an amazing feat! I can't imagine 6! We have a patient who is a vet, very proud Navy man. He and his four brothers all got shipped off to WW2 at the same time. He still has the newspaper from when it happened. The five of them were all on the front page and it chronicaled (spelling?) their journies to get to the war. One brother did die in France, the other four returned home. I just love going thru his photo albums and talking (or should I say listening) to the stories. They are such proud men and they should be! It truly humbles me to hear their stories, that is why I ended up working with the OVER 65 crowd. They have so much to teach us each and everyday if we take the time to stop and listen. Here is a thought, when I started this journey into Speech Therapy 20 years ago, I kid you not, some of my older patients talked about how their grandparents talked about the CIVIL WAR! Yikes, its hard to believe we are such a young country in the scope of the world. WWM and Mr. WWM, wherever you are with Bobby today, may you feel my hugs of gratitude for your service to the Army. Due to my health, I was denied entrance into the military. :(

  23. Molly, hi, how are you? Hope you're OK. If I don't "speak" to you ahead of next Tuesday, know that I'll be thinking of you, and logging in from Egypt to see how things are going. Did you see there's a package on its way to you? Think you'll like the contents :o) I was texting Andy today, he passes on his best too.

If you like talking to the over 65's, I'll lock you in a room with my Mum when you come over here and she's in one of her talkative moods, that'll cure you, LOL!!

  25. Hi everyone!

Tell Andy I said hi too. He is such a great guy.

  26. Every patriotic holiday my mother would tell the story of when she went to school after the bombing at Pearl Harbor. They called and assembly and all the teachers were crying. The principal told them to look at their friends. The young men would be leaving soon to fight in the war and many would never come home. I cried with my mom each time she told the story and she named the "boys" who never came home. May their souls rest in peace and may their brothers and sisters who have served before, with and after them be given the glory and credit and RESPECT they so deserve.

  27. My dad was in the Marine Corps and died in 1945; a brother served in the Navy and one sister just retired after 25 years in the Army. My hat's off to all who served their country both in peace and war. U-rah!
