Today in History (Nov 13)

(5 posts)
  1. On this day in 1956, a decision from the U.S. Supreme Court effectively ended the Montgomery Bus Boycott that had been sparked by Rosa Parks a year earlier. The court ruling desegregated the bus system and became a landmark decision in the civil rights movement.

Also born on this day in the year 354 was St. Augustine of Hippo. An early Christian convert, his book (Confessions) is still taught today and shows the evolution of his personal Christian philosophy.

  2. Great reminder of that historical event in '56! Two of today's birthdays are author Robert Louis Stevenson/Treasure Island and actress Whoopi Goldberg.

  4. Amazing woman Rosa Parks! She wasn't leading any cause, she was simply standing up for herself. Her actions sparked masses to stand up with her and a she changed our world for the better.
