Hello all,
I know I don't normally post on here, but I feel I can share my good news and excitement with you all. In June I was done with school, but from then til now was having a horrible time finding a job. So after a huge pile of applications and an even huger pile of bills, I finally found a job, and a good one at that. I am so happy that everything is working out.
The only problem is now I have to leave Kaiteur alone during the days. He's never been alone during the days and I notice lately he has become almost like a puppy. His level of affection is still the same but he tends to follow me from room to room. If I am in the bedroom for too long, he'll come in and sit on the bed with me etc. So now I am worried that he might resent me for leaving him alone during the days now. He'll always have a good supply to food, water and toys. Also my live-in boyfriend is usually off 3 - 4 days a week... but I'm his meowmy!
Is this a valid concern or am I just being too concerned about my little boy?

Con-cats on the job! Of course he will miss you but he will adjust. Might be hard on both of you at first, but in time it will be ok. Don't feel bad, he will catnap while you are at work and be extra snuggly when you come home. I feel awful when my two sit in front of the door and turn their heads to the side and give me the sad look EVERY DAY I leave! But I know they are ok! Your little one will be too!

He'll be fine. Cats are creatures who respond to patterns of behavior. You have just significantly changed your pattern. Once you and he get into the grove of your new pattern he will adjust and be ok. You could leave the radio on for him if you think he would like some background noise.

Congratulations on your new job! I think your little boy will be fine. Leela misses me, but I probably have worse separation anxiety! She just brings her favorite toy to the door she saw me leave from so we're prepared for a proper reunion at the end of the day. Good luck to you and Kaiteur!

Kaits_Mama it's good to see you posting. Good for you finishing school and persistently seeking the Good Job!! Con'cat'ulations on that! These days it's just so hard out there job hunting. Kaiteur will surely miss his meowmy but he'll likely sleep away most of your work time and won't even really know just how much time you're gone. Remember it's the quality time you spend together, not the quantity time that matters most. I just peeked at Kaiteur's Catster page...hahaha...you have some great pics of him! Love the one where he's sound asleep in a lap! Don't be a stranger...let us know how things are going for you. =)

Thanks much you guys! Karen the whole process was a challenge to say the least. It hard to accept when things don't go the way you've always been told/expected them to work out. I guess I just finished grad school at the wrong time in this country's economic history :) However thankfully I have a great support system which includes my kitty! The majority of pics i have of him are when he's asleep, as that's the only time he is still enough for the camera to get a good pic. There are more pics here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2046600&id=35600344&l=ad0033e3ff It is the link to his facebook album, since I haven't been able to get new pics on Catster...
As for Kaiteur, I do hope he sleeps during the day and doesn't miss me too much or become resentful that I am taking his biggest toy away from him during the day :) We spend lots of QT together as it is, but I know I will have to increase that once I start full time.Posted 2 years ago by kaits_mama #
