I know kittens will be kittens, what with their crazy and fun personalities, but recently, Lillie has started climbing up my dresser. The thing has 6 large drawers. I'm guessing that the goldfish tank on the top is what she's curious about, thankfully it has a lid. Each time I catch her climbing up I immediatly take her down and give her a firm 'no', in the hope that she won't do it again. But she does. I've now started making sure the door is closed when I'm not around as I'm terrified she is going to fall and hurt hersel as it's pretty high! Night-time is a different story however, as she likes to sleeps in my bedroom with me, I won't be able to tell her off is she climbs up whilst I'm sleeping. I had to remove her three times last night in the midst of dozing off. Does anyone have suggestions as to what I can do? Or has anyone else got the same/similar problem?

I've never figured out a way to totally convince a cat not to go where ever they want to go, but you could try putting something on the top of the dresser that she doesn't like to step on. Tin foil sometimes works, and double sided sticky tape works.

My guess would be she's after the fishies. Maybe you should put them somewhere where its safer for her to watch them? My cats regularly jump 9 foot walls, and land safely on the other side, so I think your kitty would be ok getting down from the dresser. Just make sure you dont have any cloths on runners on it that she can drag down with her when she jumps off.

lol, if you can figure out 'how to convince kitty NOT to climb up there' write it down....others would love the tip, in reality good luck with it. In my house we (collective we, me and the cats) have tried using the aluminum foil, double sided tape, and other things as deterrants....yeah none worked...telling them no doesn't work either, they always look at me like 'I am not a dog, please stop treating me like one'...I have to keep my laundry room door shut because MS. Fatbutt aka Ms. B gets stuck behind the washer/dryer and subsequently tears up the dryer vent hose trying to get out!

Hi Laurie,
I've never tried the tin foil but one of things that helped me was citrus. My baby hated the smell of citrus, especially lemon but orange too. I used to mix a few squirts of lemon with water, put it in a spray bottle and spray my sofa legs with it. One sofa and two arm chairs later, he backed off clawing my furniture, walking away with a crinkled nose and a little sneeze.
You could try it with the dresser. Maybe you could give him a little whiff of a slice of lemon, put some lemon slices on the dresser and then show him the slices up there and let him sniff a little. If he thinks the lemon is up there permanently, maybe he'll think twice about jumping up there. Unless he ends up liking citrus. :)
Good luck!

OK this is odd but try taping tin foil on there it will scare her (maybe you if you are sleeping) she wont like the noise it makes, I had my whole house booby trapped about a few months ago when we add another one to our family and it worked out alot but sometimes it didn't can't hurt to try!

I tried using tin foil. She loves the stuff. She started playing with it the minute i put it down. So its onto trying double sided tape, hopefully that will work! She isn't climbing up the dresser so much anymore, i've managed to get her to stop doing that. Its now just trying to deter her from going on the kitchen counter, which is much more difficult. I think its going to take sometime before she stops going up there, as so far, taking her down everytime and telling her off only makes her want to go up more.
