so it's been a while..and I'm having a mini freak out haha

(16 posts)
  1. so, Isabelle, my baby girl is going to get spayed on Tuesday and I honestly think that this is the most nervous that I've been. I don't know why I'm so nervous, but I am haha. I honestly think that it will bother me more than it will bother her. I'm just terrified that something will happen to her while she's under. I'm likely just being way over-concerned, but she's my girl and I'm afraid to take her for her spay even though I shouldn't be! How can I calm myself down so that Izzy doesn't sense my distress and stress out herself?

  2. plus, Izzy is Aerie's best friend! I just don't want anything to happen to her :(

  3. Its normal to be nervous for a surgery for one of your babies. I am sure she will be just fine!

  4. I can understand your nervousness MEPAYNE, you love your Isabelle and worry about her. That's good, but as you say you will just have to keep calm so she doesn't sense it. How I'm not sure, maybe listen to some of your favourite music or even just gently brushing and talking to Isabelle. My cat Shadz(Moonshadow)had already been spayed when we got her as a rescue kitty form the SPCA so I haven't had to go through all the worrying. There will be others along soon who may have more suggestions.

  5. I'm normally not this much of a worrier, but as you said Moonshadow, she's my baby girl and I do worry about her. But I know that the spay is for the best, I'm just a little nervous for it. and then after the new year, Aerie's going to have to get spayed as well. My baby girls are growing up so fast!

  6. so, Izzy is at the vet getting spayed as I type this and since Aerie was due for her second set of boosters, the vet suggested I leave Aerie there as well and they will fit her in for her needles when the vet gets a spare moment. She also said that maybe having Aerie there would help to calm Izzy because the two of them haven't been separated since I got them. So both of my babies are at the vet, one for needles and cuddle time with the vet and vet assistants and to comfort Isabelle and one for a spay. The office is going to call me when Izzy gets out of surgery to tell me how it went, so I'm awaiting that call and then I need to go and pick up my girls after I get out of class. send love Izzy's way for a safe spay!

  7. {{{Mepayne}}} You're right, it's probably more upsetting for us than the kitty. I kept a picture with me all day, hoping she was okay, and she was. Just makes for a long day. I'll be thinking of you today; you aren't alone.

  8. Spaying is such a common operation anymore that almost all healthy cats and kittens go through it well. Having Aerie there for Izzy's comfort will help her a lot as she recovers. Also the "vet's office smell" will be on both of them so that there shouldn't be any tenseness between them when they return home. Be sure to give them both lots of loving and attention when they return home.

  9. so the vet just called and Izzy went through the surgery perfectly, she's waking up and is apparently being incredibly vocal at the moment haha...so I'm glad that everything went well with the surgery. Now I have to wait the rest of the day so that I can go and pick her up...and she'll hate me for a little while for doing that to her, but she'll be over it by this evening haha. thanks all for your words!

  10. Glad to her your girls are fine. It's always hard leaving them at the vet, it's wonderful she got to have her best friend there for comfort and like LK said they will both have the "vet" smell.

  11. Glad to hear your baby got thru the surgery fine. It's wonderful that they have each other to snuggle in such a loud & scary place as the vet's office is. They'll both be so incredibly happy to see you when you go to pick them up. :)

  12. Be sure to give your babies extra attention and tell them how good they were while being at the vet. Have a wonderful time after you pick them up at the vet's.

  13. Have you got Izzy and Aerie back home yet MP? I'm glad that things went well and it's great that Izzy had aerie there with her for something familiar.

  14. yeah, they've been home for a while, but I've been right out straight since I got out of school and hadn't had the chance to post anything up between picking up the kittens and then going to work. They're both home and happy. but now it's going to be hard to keep Izzy quiet and calm for the next 7-10 days. she is a kitten after all and she's incredibly playful. As a matter of fact, the vet told me that Izzy would be hard to keep quiet and calm because when I went to pick her up she was climbing to the top of the holding cage she was in...silly girl. She's kind of out like a light right now though and so is Aerie. Seriously, Aerie's laying next to me and she is so asleep that I cna pretty much do anything to her and she won't move...maybe now would be a good time to clip her nails??? haha.

  15. Sounds like it was a big day for Aerie too and she's worn out. If you have trouble keeping Izzy quiet and calm just ask for advice here, there will be someone who can help I'm sure.

  16. Calm down, take a deep breath, and realize that this anxiety is typical for anyone who shares a house with two of the most beautiful cats in the world.

You are so blessed with these babies!
