I made my best attempt to syring feed Cuddles, but she was wearing more food than eating and was not improving at all. Took her back to the vet after a day and a half of this and he kept her for a few days to stabilize her fluids and see if he could get her to eat. She just nibbled, so she came home yesterday with a feeding tube. I must say this is a much less stressful way to feed her. Have done it about 8 times now and knock on wood, she is keeping it down. Wonder how long it will take before she can eat and drink on her own. She is not interested in this at all. however, she is interested in laps and purrs and wants to be around people now, instead of hiding.
Anybody else have feeding tube experience to share?

No personal experience with a feeding tube for a cat. But, we had a catsitter once whose cat had eaten something caustic and scarred her throat really bad. She wasn't in pain but she couldn't swallow. Her kitty had a permanent feeding tube and was apparently healthy and happy, although she drooled a lot. At the time the sitter told me about this, her cat had had the tube for six years.

Thank you for all of your replies.
Cuddles is doing much better. She had another vet check on Wednesday and had gained 5 oz in 5 days. I am getting a can and a half of food in her in about 8 feedings a day. She has little interest in eating on her own, though, and that is the next hurdel. Also, she had a discharge in one eye and it is mostly closed tonight. Vet was not too concerned. He gave her another shot of antibiotic. I think this is part of the virus that made her sick in the first place, but I wonder why he wasn't more concerned about her eye. Any ideas?
