  1. Its hard not to tell her, because she makes all the food in our house. My best strategy has always been to cut my food portions in half and substitute some veg or fruit in it instead. She got so mad at me tonight, I told her I'm gonna make some steamed veg and eat it before the main meal, the idea being that I'll be semi-full already and wont feel up to finishing the rest of the food. She's pouting. A grown woman of 51 years of age IS POUTING. and she's not talking to me either.

  2. I replied to what you said Kilroy, and the thread heading says I was the last person to reply, and yet I cant see my post. Weird. Testing . . .

  3. I see you, Skyron! The board gets slow like that sometimes. Your mom sounds difficult. I wish I had better advice.

  4. Honey, you could ask her why she is sabotaging you. Sometimes moms do that when they realize that they have a gorgeous young lady in the house and they suddenly feel old and fat and frumpy.

    Believe me: I know. :)

  5. Well, she can pout all she wants to, I'm determined. I want to lose 7kgs. So far I have lost 2, so 5 to go still. I went to the dr today to have my thyroid tested again. Its under-active, so I'm hoping that if they can get the balance right that the weight loss will be easier. Here's to hoping. Hearing back from them tomorrow.

  6. She has gained 15 kgs in the last 3 months. I'm pretty sure thats why she's doing it, some kind of weird and twisted form of envy. I have asked her if she wants to diet/exercise with me, and then she just gets more mad at me . . .

  7. Good for you, Skyron, for taking charge and wanting to make a change! Boo on your mother; from what you say it sounds like she's jealous.

  8. Thanks Emma & Kilroy. It helps to vent some of my frustrations. Does anyone know of a calory-counting website? Where you can find out how many calories are in things like tomatoes or cauliflower?? Or eggs . . .

  9. Let me find the one I used to use; it's from the US Dept of Agriculture *Kilroy rummages madly through the Internet* Hah! Here you go: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/ It's good because you can put in different quantities.

  10. Skyron, that makes it such a difficult situation but I think that I have to agree with Kilroy. Don't really tell her what you're doing and just go ahead and have some steamed veggies, and snack on fruit. It's awfully hard to watch your diet when someone else is doing the cooking, I know.

My guess is that she's feeling very badly about her own recent weight gain and therefore doesn't want you to lose weight either. It's kind of a twisted way of thinking, and maybe she doesn't even realize that she's doing it. Maybe you could start off with baby steps and suggest to your mom that y'all take a walk after dinner or something like that.

We will definitely be your cheering squad!

  18. Hahahahah...With MY co-ordination I could just see me trying to sit in front of my puter on a fitness ball!!!! I'd end up on the floor more than sitting OR standing!!!!! =D

  19. I have considered doing that Karen ! Only problem is I have started wearing dresses/skirts to work again. Not sure that would work too well ! I may, however, replace my chair at my computer at home with a fitness ball! Some of the suggestions in that article are interesting, but I can't see many offices going for it.

  20. Me too, Karen :) Some of those things might work for me (if I got off the subway one stop early I could add just over a mile of walking to my day. I walk a lot on the weekends (most New Yorkers do), but during the week I'm stuck at a desk for 8 hours.

  21. Thanks Dee..the snack thread is a great reminder! The exercise at work must be low key...a treadmill, weights or ball won't fly here! Must be creative on my own w/more up & about from my area instead of multi-task errands! I can walk to work too so that is a help!

  22. I have been known to fall off of fitness balls! But I do have one here at home and I use the ones at the gym to do crunches and squats. They really are a multi-function piece of equipment that you can have for very little money. With a fitness ball and some 10 lbs weights, it is amazing how many exercises you can do.

Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  23. WWM -- no kidding ! Lots and lots fo exercises to be done on the fitness ball. Right now, mine is making sure the carpet stays warm under the window LOL
