Conjuntivitis Treatment

(6 posts)
  1. Hi everyone, me again about my Feline Leukemia positive kitten Nibbler. Just wondering if anyone knows anything other then antibiotics that is good for treating conjuntivitis? He has constant runny nose and eyes. He can't be on anymore antibiotics for awhile because it destroyed his insides and I have been trying to stabilize his gastrointestinal track for weeks now. Going to the vet today at 4 to pick up one of my cats, Garbage, who will be done getting spayed then and I plan on asking the vet then...but didn't know if anyone had anything that has worked for your cats/kittens. And I startes Lysine yesterday. Thanks everyone.

  2. Try adding L-Lysine into his diet...Sophie has feline herpes and eye problems and sneezing. It seems to help. You can also buy food with L-Lysine added to the treatment.

  3. Thanks ILIKETEA, I have just added the LLysine yesterday to his daily vitamin mix, hoping to see improvment.

Spoke to my vet today and told me the only other thing I could do was to try a vapor machine to help him.

    I am praying.

  4. Crystal, you can also try bathing his poor eyes with a cotton wad and cold tea. The tannic acid in the tea seems to help sore eyes.

  5. I think one of the other TDKers were talking about rinsing eyes with saline solution..the kind people use to rinse contacts...that it may help

  6. Something you should also do, to try to prevent him from re-infecting himself all the time (I know it's inevitable that it's going to happen any way, I just mean in terms of reducing the viral load in his environment) is to make sure you clean his stuff out with a strong bleach solution every day. By stuff I mean food bowls, litter boxes (try to get rid of poop as soon as possible) etc. Nobody told me to do this when all 7 of my cats came down with snuffles earlier this year - after months of going to the vet and no one getting better, I thought about treating the situation like we did when our dog had parvo, and it worked like a charm. A week later every one was sneeze/bleary-eye free. I have a big spray bottle, with bleach and water in it, and I spray down every thing whenever I clean up after the cats.
