The vet found a lesion in Stumpie's throat this morning. I took him in because he wasn't eating normally, and I couldn't see why. They're going to sedate him later this afternoon and use an endoscope to see exactly what's going on before they operate to fix it. The vet said the prognosis for Stumpie's situation isn't good, because he's so small the aneasthesia risk is much bigger, and he could be under for a few hours, depending on what they find. Prayers for my baby please?

Thank you for all the support guys. For now he's back at home and doing ok. The vet did some barium contrast xrays, which showed some sort of lesion in the child's food pipe (I dont know what you call this in english - think it's the oesophagus?). When the vet did the endoscope-thing he found an abnormality in Stumpie's oesophagus. It has a kink in it. With people, because we walk upright, this wouldn't be a problem because gravity would just pull your food over the kink and all would be well. But because kitties dont walk upright, and hence don't have gravity working for them, the food travels down the oesophagus to where the kink is, and it can't pass over the kink, so it just gets stuck. Kinda explains why the child only drinks milk and eats mushy food. So the vet unblocked him today, but the child is still going to need major surgery when he's bigger to fix this, because it's just going to keep on happening. So for now he's on his favourite almost-liquid food, waiting to get bigger.
So now I'm wondering - Stumpie needs the best nutrition to make up for all the growth-time he's lost out on so he can have the surgery. The raw-food thing in SA is non-existant, but it obviously it comes highly recomended by you guys. Can anyone suggest some websites that might help me figure out a raw liquid diet for him?

At least you have a diagnosis now, Skyron. You might want to email the folks at Best Friends (www.bestfriends.org), they might be able to help you find something suitable for Stumpie to eat/slurp till he's big enough for the surgery. Prayers for him and you!

Awwww...poor little Stumpy! If you're feeding him raw, maybe you could grind the meats finely and then add liquids to thin it to a gruel type consistency. Glad you've discovered his problem early. Prayers and white light for your little one. He's adorable. All your children are beautiful! =)

You can probably puree almost any kind of kitten food for him. Do you have access to Kitten Milk Replacement powder? If you added that to his pureed food, you would know he was getting enough nutrition.

The child is doing amazingly well today. I always thought he just wasn't very interested in food, and now we know why. At the moment I'm mixing some water into his royal canin recovery food, and he finishes all of it! I only give him a little bit at a time, every 2hours or so, and the child has a pot-belly for the fist time in his life! He looks like he swallowed a melon. If only we knew to give him liquid food sooner :( But he has tons of energy, he's playing up a storm, and purring all the time, so I'm a very happy kitty mommy. Thank you for all the energy and prayers you sent, I cannot express in words how much it means to me, and I'm certain it made a big difference. The vet basically told me yesterday that Stumpie wasn't going to make it, and now he's chewing on my toes! Thank you.
