Man speaks only Klingon to his child for its first three years

  1. Where's the child's mother? Did she speak Klingon to him, too, or did she teach him a usable language (such as English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Japanese, Portuguese, Tagalog, - anything you will hear in day-to-day life)? The last time I checked, there were no Klingon immigrant applications submitted to the Bureau of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services [formerly known as Immigration and Naturalization Services]).

  3. Are you kidding me? LOL! Dee where did you come up with this one? This guys a nutcase bordering on child abuser. Klingon is mere gibberish and not the least bit useful to this poor child's development and growth. There was definitely not enough information given in this article. =O

  4. Well, he obviously didn't do any harm; the kid's in high school now and doesn't speak a word of Klingon. But who knows, maybe he has a facility for languages because of early exposure to something different?

  5. Kilroy, most teens who are multilingual learn multiple languages at approximately the same time while they are young; this article implies that the only language spoken to this child was Klingon.

  6. That's sort of implied by the article, but other articles make it clear that the kid's mother spoke English to him.

  7. Oh for Heaven's sake...this article doesn't mention anything about the child being in high school or about the mother speaking english to him. I was assuming he was a three yr. old. Glad you're sharing more of the facts Kilroy. I appreciate it since the article was incomplete.

  8. A lot of stuff that turns up on the Internet is like that, Karen, asnd as a total info nerd I try my best to fill in the blanks wherever possible. Futile, maybe, but occasionally satisfying :0

  9. Thank God his mother spoke to him in a language that would later be useful to him. I know that not learning a language in infancy can lead to a world of learning disabilities. This kid seems to not be the worse for wear.
