Male or Female Kittens?

(21 posts)
  1. Hi Guys,

Just wondering whether these two kittens are male or female.

Initially I was bothered about their survival. Now that they are doing well, I'm trying to figure out their gender. Both are are 31 days old.

I have read many articles regarding gender determination. However, it is very difficult to tell if they are male or female :) I have read about the colon and semicolon method, and other stuff. However, it's so difficult to figure out.

Looks like I may have to change some names:)

There are 2 links for each kitten.

    KITTEN 1 (Pepper):

  2. I have no clue, WTW, but if you'll be patient you will know soon enough!

  3. Oh dear, I'm never very good at this unless I have one of each in front of me. But I suspect they're both boys. If you're willing to give them each a VERY gentle little grope, that's probably the best way to tell but I've never been able to bring myself to do that either.

Why do you have to change names? Mint and Pepper are good to go for boys and girls :)

  4. Mint has two clearly separated dots. That indicates BOY.

Pepper is too out of focus to be certain but I am leaning toward GIRL. The dot nearest the tail appears to be more of a slash than a dot but I would want an in focus picture to be certain.

  5. I also think pepper might be a girl, and mint a boy. Although, I have been rudely surprised many times in my life (delila turned out to be a shakespeare . . .), so you might want to re-evaluate in a few month's time.

  6. If you turn them over on their backs and see this : it's a boy
If you turn them over on their backs and see this ; it's a girl

It really does work, that's how I knew Huddy and his littermates were all boys.

  7. I agree, it looks to me like Pepper is a girl and Mint a boy.

  8. I agree Mint is definitely a boy.
I can't tell the other one.

  9. Mint is definitely a boy. Pepper is too out of focus, but if it looks like Mint its a boy. A girl's orifices are closer together than a boy's.

  11. WILLTOWAY, are these the babies u raised on baby formula? they've gotten so big! what a happy ending. they must be a bundle of trouble now, running up n down, tearing the house apart :)

  12. Mint is a boy...Pepper? Now that you shared their backsides how about their cute little faces!

  13. Khom, I'm glad baby formula worked for them. I had no other option. They don't drink from a bowl yet, but Mint (older by a few seconds) has started to eat gruelled fish and chicken (mashed). Pepper is still a bottle baby, but she ate egg yolk (boiled) yesterday. So they are growing. They are six weeks old today. They run all over the place, exploring and playing with curtains, etc. They started to use the litter box when they were 4 weeks old.

    Jeankit,
    Here are some pics:-

  14. You guys must have noticed that I have put bells (jingles) in their necks. They don't mind them at all. This is because they are so quick when they run about that they missed being crushed a couple of times. I want to avoid any accidents. Then there are times when they disappear under furniture and under the bed. It's because of the jingles that I can spot them. Please let me know if the chains can be hazardous.

  15. soo cute. Their bodies look very pink.

  16. I WISH my kitties would let me put belled collars on them...it'd be easier to find them haha! Sadly, Izzy freaks out with a bell around her neck and Aerie turns herself inside out trying to attack the bell around her neck :S

  17. Ladysky,
Indian cats have less fur. Therefore their pink skin underneath can be seen. I guess that is the reason why they appear pinkish.

  18. Megpayne,
I have heard of many heartbroken parents who have accidentally killed their kittens. So, I just want them to be safe. Even if they are turning in he middle of the night you can hear the bells. It is the sweetest sound to hear the first thing in the morning.

  19. Your babies are sooooooo cute.

The only suggestion I have about putting bells on them is that you need to be sure the collars are break-aways. Or loose enough to slide off their necks if they get them caught on something. There have been some very sad stories of kittens who hung themselves when their collars got caught and their humans weren't there to rescue them in time.

  20. CheetahBoysMommy, Thanks for your suggestion. Break away collars aren't available out here. Maybe I can try woolen (hand knitted) collars. These are very stretchable. I've tried them on adult cats before.

  21. WOw. Willtoway, u knit too? man...these kits are so lucky you found them. such cuties!
