how do I keep Izzy calm and quiet for healing?

  1. hey all!

Izzy did beautifully with her spay surgery yesterday, it went exactly by the book was what the vet said and it isn't even like she had the surgery at all! She doesn't seem to be in any pain or anything and that's where my problem lies haha.

Vet orders said to keep Izzy calm and quiet for the next 7-10 days, but with Izzy, it seems impossible to do haha. She's running and jumping just like she always has, but she isn't supposed to be doing that! How can she heal properly if she tears through the house like a hurricane, climbing everything in sight?

Any advice on how to make Izzy simmer down a bit so she can heal? Thanks!

  2. Can you get a large indoor dog crate? That's the only thing that kept Maggie somewhat still after she was done!

  3. Perhaps you can confine her to a bedroom or something?

  4. Hi MP, sounds like Izzy is giving you a hard time and refusing to stay calm. Limiting her space is really worth a try. You could leave a radio on for her or even the television, just something to help with the boredom. I hope it works.

  6. You've gotten all good suggestions above. If you don't have a large dog cage of some kind, keeping her confined to a smaller room would be best. Some kitties heal or spring back faster than others. Just be sure to keep watch of her surgery area to make sure she isn't tearing it open.

  7. hey, the furry child is impossible to keep calm haha. I tried confining her to my bedroom, it made no odds, she was still jumping and playing, and then of course Aerie had to join in and they had some wrestling matches...silly kitten. I'm keeping a close eye on her incision site, and it looks fine, not red and angry looking, or torn open and such, the only thing I've noticed is some swelling, but that's been there since I brought her home and the vet said that it's normal and that it should go down in a few weeks after the tissue has healed. the sweeling isn't painful to the touch or warm and gross looking. It looks just like a healing cut, nothing out of the ordinary.

but yeah, so the confining thing didn't work, but she is definitely bouncing back from the surgery like a charm. she's more cuddly and she seems happier, but then I could just be imagining that. but she's constantly purring and cuddling with me and she cuddles with Aerie more now than what she did before.

I'm just going to keep and eye on her surgery site and hopefully the swelling will start going down like the vet said that it would when I called yesterday to report it. Basically I was told not to worry about it, if it isn't bothering her or causing her any issues than let it be and just keep watching her. But the vet told me that if she's that difficult to keep calm to not even try, I'll just have to be extra diligent for the next few days while the major healing finishes up. Then she's free to be a baby haha.
