My computer just yelled at me. I'm a yankee and I have a lot to learn about southern cooking. Sigh, I love southern food! *has sudden craving for authentic fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, bisquits - and chocolate pudding for dessert*

I'm most definitely "southern"--I did miss one (the cornbread ingredient was eggs, not buttermilk) but I got all the rest. I only lived "down south" until I was 3, but I'm a southerner at heart.

Me, too MCM--My mother always used buttermilk in cornbread, and a little oil but not much. And of course, the eggs. I did get 9 out of 10 though. And I still eat Black-eyed Peas on New Years Day.

I got them all right, but that's because I used to watch my mom cook all the time. I don't even eat any of that stuff - lol some more.

I learned to cook - thanks to my oldest brother - at the age of 9 while living in Orlando, but most of the cooks in the family that I tried to emulate the most lived in Panama City, Florida and that was the farthest north I ever went! Once a barefoot brat - always a barefoot brat - even in the snow-belt of Colorado! I also got all of the answers correct - my Aunts would skin me alive if I missed any of them!

Yup, I'm Southern, too! By the Grace of God, the gret stets of Louisiana, Virginia and North Carolina have been my homes.
And it shows.
My most favorite meal is fried chicken, mashed potatoes (add some garlic and caramelized onion), fresh garden peas, cat-head biscuits (the name describes the size), lots of sweet tea, and banana pudding and French Roast coffee for dessert.
Next time any of y'all come to Greensburg, you can tell what will be on the menu!
Can I just have the chicken and potatoes, Emma? lol

This quiz is meaningless; anyone whose ancestors up to 150 years back have moved up North, out West, or out East from the South would be more likely to know this information than someone whose ancestors are thoroughly Northern, Western, or Eastern (that is, New England and the Atlantic Seaboard). Besides, we have the Internet and the Food Network; Southern cooking is no big secret. (BTW, I got 9/10; a trick question was thrown in to confuse people, and I missed the trick question.) No okra, please, unless it's fried; I'm not fond of boiled vegetables that look slimy. Please pass the fried chicken, the greens, and the red velvet cake, but no sweet tea (too sweet) or mint juleps (not fond of bourbon).
6/10. Thanks to AV I knew the peanuts question, but the rest were either guesses or knowledge dredged from the depths of my brain and mostly learned from movies/TV programmes. I'm still deeper south than most by latitude though.

9/10...the cornbread got me too..went with the buttermilk, knowing that eggs are an ingredient, obviously. Congrats to MS on 6/10...even if they were good guesses!!! Oh and most definitely you are further south than most of us!! :)
