   Today is the day in 1095 when the Council of Clermont was convened. It was at this council that Pope Urban II rallied the Western world and began the First Crusade.

   Today in 1863, Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address. It remains one of the most famous speeches in American history; Lincoln delivered it to dedicate a cemetery for soldiers who perished in the Civil War.
