  5. Hi AV! Looks like maybe you had a nip or two from the fountains before starting the nightshift! Smile!

CM - so sorry to hear what you are going through with the little one. What does her doctor say? I don't have kids so can't offer motherly advice but I do feel badly for you, and her, poor little soul.

I'm only on for a moment, have a zillion things to do. Just wanted to say hello and say outloud: I'm not responsible for other people!!!! NO NO NO!

  6. CM I know it seems like eons ago to me somedays, but I was just talking to hubby about daughter at that age. We put her down, checked on her when she cried, and let her cry it out. My hubby worked 2 jobs at that time. Military and then worked on the base pizza place after hours. He was gone for 12-18 hours each day. I would put her in her crib. At first she would lay down and then all of a sudden she would cry. I would go in and read a story or sing to her a bit--no more than 3-5 minutes. Then I would put her down again and leave. I let her cry for 15 minutes then went and rubbed her back for a minute. I would increase the time. Let her cry for 30 minutes and repeat. It only took a couple of long weeks and she would go down when I put her down with no problem. I home that helps!

  7. its hard to learn to knit and be in a chat room at the same time, but im trying !!! im all ready up to trying a few of the patterns. im currently making a bag using the basketweave pattern. nothing fancy, just knit and purl stitches. i misread the row patterning so 2 inches of this might be k4, p4 unless i decide to rip it all up and start again.

meanwhile, Spice is napping so could i please have a plate of cut up fruit and milk chocolate ? thank you...

  8. We are going to have to let her do that..we are letting her cry it out now..it's so hard..I did give her Motrin in case it was her teeth, she was fed right before bed and her diaper is okay...she's so tired too..not good napping today, last night up all night...
I went in there and rocked her, she wanted to get out of my arms..I even turned on her night light...nothing is helping...I will try that SM
I haven't talked to the dr yet about her...I have been wondering if I should but what do I say..I feel dumb.

  9. i just ripped up today's knitting. i want to do this completely right. mmmm, it rips up a lot faster than it goes together...

  10. (((CM!))).... you are NOT dumb!... every child is different, and you are a wonderful, caring parent!.... Daughter, (my second)... played the wake up and cry card with me for almost 2 yrs (hangs head in shame)... finally, I figured out all she wanted was me to "hand" her a cup of her juice... I finally had to go thru weeks of just like SM said, longer periods of letting her cry, and putting her juice on the dresser by her crib, which at this point she was able to pull up and reach for... she would take one sip, and fall back into sleep.... FINALLY we got thru this!..... as will you!...

  11. We had to do the cry it out with Maddie..but it took about 3-4 days...this time..well, now we have to worry about her waking Maddie up..I just went up there and rocked her, sang a bit, gave her some gas drops, and orajel...put her down and she is crying still....
AV...I don't know how you did it for 2 years..I am going crazy..she will NOT let Wayne soothe her so it's up to me...All I want is some sleep for us. You can tell she is soooo tired.
Cheri, sorry you had to rip up your knitting. I have never tried it myself..too hard for me.

  12. For MC, I'll take a chocolate martini; for me, I'll take a White Russian (OK, so he doesn't have to be Russian... ;) ). For those who hadn't noticed the thread: What do those numbers mean?, I got the test results concerning my cholesterol levels, and they're some pretty funky numbers. I got so depressed I went to White Castle and got three sliders with cheese, a side of fries, and a red creme soda. In my defense, I was celebrating what would have been my grandmother's 105th birthday today. Now I'm afraid to go on a diet that may have to consist of wheatgrass juice, carrot curls, and tofu, since I won't be able to eat the good stuff until my LDL cholesterol and my triglycerides go down and my HDL cholesterol goes up. Oh, great, I sound like those old people on a Lipitor commercial; I'm only 38, and it stinks that I have to watch my diet while other people get to eat what they want and suffer no consequences.

  13. Greetings & salutations, just relaxing this evening, watching a few episodes of Six Ft Under and hopefully sleeping. Spent most of the day with my best friend, it's her birthday and we wandered thru thrift shops, found a few treasures, ate out and now back home. And I bought a chaise lounge for my bedroom which will be delivered on Monday, that wasn't in the plans but it was too nice to pass up.

CM, poor baby Abbie, I have no tips for you, none of mine went thru those moments I was very lucky with all three kids. I am just hoping that she gets tired and goes to sleep for hours not minutes.

  14. I'm peeping in again real quick. I've got company coming tomorrow and my house is a PIT. Sigh... anyway... CM you are NOT dumb and I agree, I think you are an awesome mom! Maybe she is having night terrors? It wouldn't hurt to describe to the doctor what is happening. Maybe there is a minor issue that needs to be corrected that you just cannot see/find. Again, not being a mom, I don't know, and I know the mom's here are giving you sound advice and comfort. But just like our fur-babies, they cannot tell us what is wrong so we take them to their doc. Maybe a quick check-up is in order, just to rule out any physical issues. Does she do this when she naps?

Vicki - oh Vicki! There is a smorgasbord of AWESOME, WONDERFUL, HEALTHY food out there! Do some research on healthy fats. RealAge.com (Dr Oz and Dr Roizen) have a lot of info there. I love veggies and fruits. You can still have the "bad" stuff, just not as much/often, but the good food out there you can enjoy without guilt! Please don't be disheartened.

SM - glad you are home and hopefully will be completely healed soon and today was just a bump in the road.

I may or may not make it back tonight. Prayers for all who need healing, physical/emotional, kits and hoomins! Love to all.

  15. CM, the hardest part about being a mom is that the little ones don't come with instruction manuals. And they're all different! Don't feel dumb about asking your pediatrician questions. He's probably heard them all and would rather you ask questions than have you do something out of blind ignorance.

VIckie, diets suck but those cholesterol numbers are really important. And I hate to shake your boat but once you get them down, you have to eat right to keep them there. I know. I have to watch cholesterol and blood sugar and blood pressure and it's no fun going through the cupboard saying, "Well, I can have one piece of toast and an egg OR a pear and an egg OR . . .with no salt." well, you get the idea. But don't despair, an occasional (and I do mean occasional) treat won't hurt.

  16. well she is quiet now..lets hope for an all nighter !!! Hugs to all, thank you for the advice...off to watch CSI then hopefully bed!!!!

  17. Cheri - good luck with the knitting this time round!
CM - I saw someone ask in the cafe if maybe Abbie has an ear infection. Is she rubbing at her ear at all?
Vicki - I got a marginal cholesterol reading last year but have been exercising, eating properly (including oatmeal) and I'm hoping they have improved - must go back and get a recheck

  18. ... again, *hangs head in shame*.... my cholesterol is 237..... and I am 5'8" and weigh only 120- lbs!.... tell me to go on a low fat diet????

Posted 4 months ago by AV #

  19. No ear rubbing out of the ordinary...I thought of that too with the ear infection. if she has another bad night, i think I might call the dr tomorrow to rule that out.
Commercial on CSI :) Had to come back and say hi... :)

Posted 4 months ago by cricketsmama #

  20. Smart thinking on the ear infection, but if it's not that, it might just be a "battle of the wills".... CSI!.... am watching that too! LOl

  21. yay !!! yippee !!! yahoo !!! google !!!

i think i am finally starting the get this knitting thing !!!

Posted 4 months ago by Cheri 12/22 #

  22. AV, it sounds like you may have a hereditary thing going on with the cholesterol. My mom does too; she has never been overweight and she walks all the time, but she has to be on meds because hers is high. Her father died when he was 70 from a stroke, so we certainly know where she gets it from.

CM, I can't imagine how tired you must be! I hope Abbie can get settled into a good routine soon.

Vicki, hang in there! You did make me laugh; 3 sliders with cheese? Actually, the worst thing I can think of for raising cholesterol was that risotto I had in Chicago when we had our TDK meetup. Bacon and egg! It was awfully good but really guilt producing. I made myself be extra good after that weekend.

  23. Cheri, I used to knit years ago but gave it up when RT (who was a kitten at the time) very nearly killed herself by getting yarn wrapped around her neck. Fortunately I was there, realized what had happened, and cut it off. She was out cold though, and I really thought she was dead. It was awful; I put all the yarn right away. Now that I have older cats maybe I should try it again.

Posted 4 months ago by NNGM #

  24. NNGM, you are SO right! about the hereditary thing!... my Mom, my Sis, my Bro... all have numbers around 230-250...... and we ALL thin people who eat heathy, and exercise!....I will also say, our grandparents, etc. lived to over 90+ (most in the late 90's) .....

Posted 4 months ago by AV #

  25. i have finished my knitting for the night. and ive put the yarn out of Spice"s reach into a drawer.

now it's off to read !!! and to check my blood sugar. i had a 6" subway sub tonight called "the feast". about 4 times the normal meat and a decent price - $5.25 for 6", 4 times the meat, 1/2 the bread, works for me...

Posted 4 months ago by Cheri 12/22 #

  26. Yes, on my mom's maternal side, they apparently had no problems with cholesterol. My great-uncle ate bacon and eggs for breakfast every single morning, and he finally ended up dying when he was in his 90's - from emphysema, since he also smoked constantly. Some pretty healthy genes on that side of the family.

Posted 4 months ago by NNGM #

  27. Hello all, Cheri, good for you on the knitting! I admire your patience and sorry you had to rip it out. Keep trying! Cm, Understand about the little ones. Don't know what is with Abbie and the crying. Dakoda right now just cut 4 top teeth, miserable sucker, she is. Kay giving her tylenol, but cranky as heck all week. Must be the kids torture week for parents and grandparents! Hang in there, call Kay if you need to vent, you 2 can do it together!!

Raising a glass to MC as well, and wishing her a good night's sleep and a swift recovery that she may join us soon again.

With that, going to bed, long day at work, body killing me. Til later, love to all and may the angels kiss you gently while you sleep. mama Lynn

  28. Eggs are not a cause of high cholesterol. Cholesterol is made in the liver. It's good to do supportive things for your liver, it's the body's filter.

SM you might want to try tea tree oil, too, on the incision. It's also an excellent antimicrorbial (has a strong odor but I'm not tempted to eat it like I am honey!)

I'm heading to bed. Going to get up at 4am to clean the bathroom as the dishwasher is running now. Will sleep on top of the bed since I have fresh sheets on and I'm all dirty and stinky from cleaning but I'm too bushed to do anymore tonight.

I am not responsible for what other people think, do or say or what they DON'T think, do or say. I need to say that out loud.

    Blessings and peace.

  29. Bedtime for me too. I think Nora had already beaten me to it. That girl loves her beauty rest.
