  1. The Bill of Rights was ratified by New Jersey, the first state to do so, on this day in 1789. This was an important step in the establishment of the cornerstone of American civil rights.

    The Nuremberg Trials officially convened for the first time on this day in 1945. Twenty Nazi war criminals were made to answer for their roles in World War II throughout the course of these trials.

  2. Today in Strangeness:

    On November 20, 1820 an 80 ft. sperm whale attacked the Essex, an American whaling ship, 2,000 miles off the coast of South America. The 80-ton whale's impact put a hole in the Essex causing the ship to capsize, though the crew escaped to another vessel. Herman Melville's classic 1851 novel Moby Dick was inspired by this famous maritime disaster.

  4. WOW...Strong stuff today Dee! SBP that old footage from WWII certainly is sobering isn't it!
    On the lighter/cosmic side it is Edwin Powell Hubble's birthday today. He is the astonomer namesake of the Hubble Space Telescope!
